Theres no proof that the events of purim occurred and supposedly the israelite jews killed other semetic peoples and tribes inside the Persian empire, not Persian Zoroastrians. You do realize that the first Persian empire held around 40% of the known worlds population, right? Out of 48 or so million people living in the Persian empire around 1 or 2 million were ethnically Persian. Non of the massacres even took place in Persian territory.

I grew up in Iran so I know what the environment is like. I only spent 6 years in the education system, but I clearly remember, and I swear this is the truth on my own mother's life, that I would watch a news clip on TV and and get all teary eyed b/c in my head I could imagine Israelis running around killing Palestinian kids my age in the streets in cold blood. I was only 10. Now Imagine not only going through primary school in that system, but also secondary and post secondary education. I know exactly why they feel the way they do. For them, they only know one Israel and that Israel is known as the "Zionist regime" which is the eternal enemy of Iran. That's what they know. That's what they've been brought up to know.

I also watched news growing up in Iran.... dont' ever remember getting teary eyed. It could just mean that you are more prone to extreme feelings than the average person, as manifested by your behavior on this site. Don't project your own thoughts and feeling to everybody else. In fact I know quite a few Iranians in and outside of Iran, the vast majority of whom are very mellow about Israel. I think you know very well what I'm talking about. People in Iran generally don't care much about Israel on its own. They only care about it as it relates to them and Iran. Which in my view is quite normal.

I myself was actually more positively inclined toward Israel, when I was younger, because of the war and because I totally rejected everything that I was told officially. Because even a young kid could tell when they were being force-fed propaganda, and most did. I didn't start seeing Zionism as a patently racist and supremacist ideology, until after I left Iran and got a closer look at their views and started thinking for myself.

I have to disagree. I don't think most seem to care about Palestinians. They oppose Israel because their administration opposes it and they don't want to be labelled as traitors by having a different point of view and others oppose it for religious reasons. I think your admin's comment above proves what I said up to some extent.

Most Iranians 'instinctively' know that Zionism and similar ideologies are wrong. They're generally not big into racial ideologies, including their own. I thank god for that and hope that we never get to that point. But it's not due to religious reasons. Most religious Iranians care more about Karbala, than they will ever do for Jerusalem.

There is an element of patriotism involved. After the assassination of Iranian scientist and the recent events, I think some Iranians are starting to see Israel as an obstacle to their growth. I think their views are valid to a reasonable extent. Iran and Israel are not natural allies. Our inherent national interests are not complementary. The pursuit of Iran's inherent national interests will bring it to conflict with Israel, regardless of the type government in Iran.
