Israel army plans to demolish Palestinian village of Jaba
The Israeli army has warned Palestinians in the village of Jaba' in the east of the occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem) that it plans to demolish their homes, Press TV reports.
The army handed the village residents a warning that says it plans to demolish the majority of the residence permanent houses in order to expand a nearby illegal settlement, a Press TV correspondent reported on Monday.
With nowhere else for the residents to go, the move is expected to leave villagers in a dire humanitarian situation.
“The Israeli army has already demolished many houses and now they have now handed us a notice that they will demolish more, this is my house, this is my home, I don’t have a second house, if they destroy this, then we have nowhere to go,” one of the residents said.
The Israeli regime increased its settlement activities after an upgrade in the Palestinian status at the United Nations General Assembly on November 29, 2012. The 193-member General Assembly voted 138-9 with 41 abstentions to upgrade Palestine’s status to non-member observer state.
The Israeli settlements are considered illegal by much of the international community. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the settlement construction is part of Tel Aviv’s policy and will not stop.
More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 1967.
