You hit the nail on its head here. The Iraq invasion of 2003 was the inception for what we see today, without pretext, justification and any form of legal case. All that's happening now doesn't effect EU/West sufficiently to call for wiping these extreme groups. Why would it effect the West, Turkey with three million Syrian war refugees is paying their ffuckup. Bonus, they get to watch a geography in flames, ultimately crippling any geographical ambitions, including that of Turkey. Win/win in their scheme of viewing the world= zero sum game, international realism. Our win is their loss, available materials are scarce, positive sum outcome is out of question.
As Bush said, "you are either with us or against us". You either serve the cause of your white Anglo-Saxon masters or you are a slave who deserve nothing - you can't pursue any nationalistic ambitions that is at "odds" with their interest, it doesn't even have to be at odds, as long as they percieve it to be, that suffices.
