Is US Playing the "India Card" Against China With "Indo-Pacific Quad"?

At the moment, your nation is busy bending over to Uncle Sam to get their approval.
We can do business with Americans and Russians, at the same time we do business with Chinese.
Similarly we can do that with Iran and Saudis, while the same we can do with Saudi and Qatar. Even with all that, we can be good friends with Israel.

Edit: We can also buy oil from Sanctioned Iran when US was sitting right next in Afghanistan, we are sending shipments to Afghanistan through Iran while you guys expect it won't take off with US sanctions. We can give aids to North Korea and say that we will continue to do that at the face of the US. Still we manage to have good relationship.

That's called Independent foreign policy. Something you really need to learn.

Has Asia-Pacific become Indo-Pacific? Is George W. Bush's Quad back again? Is this Trump's version of Obama's Pivot to Asia? Let's examine what happened during President Donald Trump's recent Asia Trip.

Obama's Pivot to Asia:

President Barack Obama's Pivot to Asia initiative and his efforts to create Trans-Pacific Partnership (TTP) seemed to have been all but abandoned by President Donald Trump after his inauguration in January 2017. This is part of a pattern of Mr. Trump's campaign to erase the Obama legacy and put his own stamp all things American. However, it now appears that the Obama legacy is being repackaged by the Trump administration under new names such as "Quad" in "Indo-Pacific" region. Its aim remains the same: To check China's rise.

Trump's Quad in Indo-Pacific:

In a speech to business leaders during his visit to Vietnam, President Trump repeatedly called for a “free and open Indo-Pacific,” describing a region where independent nations could “thrive in freedom and peace” and all states “play by the rules.” Without naming China as the target, Trumo also used the phrase repeatedly at the start of a meeting Monday in the Philippines with President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Bloomberg. Trump also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Manila and called him a friend and a “great gentleman.”

Trump's Asia trip also saw the revival of a decade-old but short-lived partnership of four maritime nations (Australia, India, Japan and the United States) worried about China’s rising influence in the region now being described as "Indo-Pacific" rather than its usual moniker of Asia-Pacific. Senior officials from the four counties met in Manila for the first such meeting since the George W. Bush administration, focused on regional issues including North Korea but topped with China-related concerns.

US-India Anti-China Military Alliance?

To some observers, the "Quad" appears to be a throwback to the Cold War era in which the United States wants to use Narendra Modi as a willing ally to check China's rise. They cite lack of confidence in the current American leadership under Trump to follow through on any international or bilateral commitments.

While the US seeks to use India against China, the Indians remain obsessed with Pakistan. They talk about the lack of American concern for India's interests in South Asia and the Middle East. Writing for The Wire, Indian analyst Manoj Joshi complains that "there is no reciprocal US commitment to issues of Indian concern relating to Pakistan and the dangers arising out of the highly volatile environment in the Persian Gulf area which the US has helped create".

India's Pakistan Obsession:

It seems to me that the US policymakers don't fully appreciate the Kautilya doctrine that says "your neighbor is your enemy and your neighbor's neighbor is your friend".

The foreign policy doctrine enunciated by Kautilya, the ancient Indian Machiavelli, continues to guide India's foreign policy vis-a-vis its neighbors, particularly Pakistan. Kautilya's Rajamdala (Circle of States) theory can be seen in action today in India's use of Afghanistan against Pakistan. Unfortunately, the Pakistan phobia in India is so deeply ingrained that the Indian policy vis-a-vis Pakistan is not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Summary:

President Donald Trump has repeatedly talked about the "Indo-Pacific" region in an obvious attempt to sign up Delhi to counter Beijing in Asia. However, the Indians remain obsessed with enlisting the Americans to hurt Pakistan. The Trump administration is willing to engage in anti-Pakistan rhetoric but it is not going to act against Pakistan as long as Afghanistan remains important to the US interests. This is where their interest diverge now and likely to remain so at least in the foreseeable future.

Please edit it. No need to go down that path.

Only a seriously naive person would think that every country in the world is not the same path. If you're referring to stuff like American refusal to sell F-16s to Pakistan, or Pakistan's adversarial relations with Russia for all those years, this is the consequence of an independent policy rather than anything else. What has India ever done except for running away from tough situations? This is something you need to wake up to and differentiate from your state's propaganda.

Modi was invited to make a speech to the US congress and he made oblique references to Pakistan. Modi tried and got snubbed at the BRICS summit in Goa for twisting the grouping against Pakistan. There is no international grouping where the Indian government doesn't speak of Pakistan. Even the domestic politics of India always includes references to Pakistan.

Please wake up.

Where did we run away from tough situation? Please tell me.
When the whole west was against Russia during Crimea, we could've simply played along with them. True we will loss more but, if appeasing americans was our aim(as you claimed) then why did we support Russia in Crimea issue?

You can put few miniscule examples but you dare take a decisive action. Please tell me, why you didn't take forward the gas pipeline from Iran (a fellow Islamic nation) while you were worried about Americans and Saudis.
That's why, during Qatar crisis Saudi King asked Pakistan if they are with them or against them. While this question was never asked at Indians. I can give a lot of examples. That's not my intent anymore. Don't equate foreign policy of India and Pakistan it's miles apart. We talk business.

We tried and succeeded in naming terror organizations in your nation in the summit that happened in China. While we make a grouping that is evidently against China while working with China in other groupings:enjoy:.

US wont fight India's war, nor should India make such a mess by dancing to Uncle Sam's insinuations. India has already tied its hands with American ropes a la LSA, LEMOA, BECA, SISMOA (albeit reluctantly) under Modi. And the situation is as under:

India has become a victim caught in a US wedge weaved by it (US).

India has not signed BECA and SISMOA. Why has the LEMOA tied India's hands ?
All the whinings about India-USA partnership has the taste of sour grapes from Pakistanis and Chinese

That's not obsession, it is unmasking of Pakistan !

.
This can be very good for us

India falling into the U.S lap being set up to take on China can work out great for Pakistan

Haha. Distorting realities seems to have become a national past time of Indians. Reminds me of how this demonetization blunder by Modi has been sold as miracle cure for everything from combating terrorism to reducing greenhouse gase emitions!

India has never run away from tough situations. we have stayed out of trouble

So India has been a good boy? Very nice. Stay out of trouble. This is men's work.

Where did we run away from tough situation? Please tell me.

India has been directly involved in Afghanistan since before Pakistan. It kept prodding Daud Khan against Pakistan which meant a constant friction between us. It then supported the Societ occupation of Afghanistan. After that it supported Naibullah and then it went with the Northern alliance faction. Now it is with the Ghani govt. But in all of this, it has never come out to help its proxies when they needed them and that is why Pakistan has had an upper hand. Indian support of Russia was never a major consideration for any player and so India shouldered no responsibility over there too. India has no role in the Middle East as well. Otherwise it would've figured in the deliberations. It is so weak that even the Americans don't bother with questioning its dealings with Iran, while they have kept pressure to withhold the Iran-Pakistan deal.

Of course we cannot equate the foreign policies of India and Pakistan. We don't talk. We act. India only talks and talks.

I have read the declaration and it is a very weak reference. India tried and failed in including even an oblique reference to Pakistan during the summit in Gao. What was amazing was that not only China, but Russia also snubbed India in its homeland. India's fixation with enforcing its hegemony in South Asia has made it a non-serious entity in international politics.

U happy with AAA.. we happy with cow. Outcome is infront of every one.

Haha. Game is not over yet.

I never knew you could measure the strength of a reference in a declaration. As far as I see, simply mentioning the name is enough and it serves our purpose.

India never wanted to name Pakistan in BRICS declaration, the snubs and things are just media creation. There is no official confirmation from government of India that we had plans to include your country.

In international politics, it is the language which counts the most. That is where things are made and unmade. Modi made a stand by making speeches which carried implicit references to Pakistan. But its complete absence and the silence of Russia was a clear snub. This is how its done. People don't shoved in international summits. People get ignored.

Modi made a speech, it expressed his views. BRICS is not a voting body. So why would Russia comment on something that is faced by India.

India wanted to name the terror groups in joint declaration. We did that in China. Our purpose is served.
