FYI "The character of Puss in Boots originated in a European fairy tale in 1697". It is a fairly common book to read as a child.

The story of the 2011 movie is originally based on Panchatantra story - I doubt it even though i haven't seen the movie, a cursory read reveal nothing of the original plot. Shrek movies poke fun at Disney animations (princesses/picture-perfect-beauties/happily-ever-afters) mainly because Dreamworks -the studio that produced these movies was founded by Jeffery Katzenberg -who was fired from Disney despite revitalizing the animation department simply because he was stealing Micheal Eisner's shine (CEO at that time). Incidentally, it was Eisner who insisted on bring Jeff over when he was being poached from Paramount.

I haven’t read anything conclusive that suggests Puss in Boots is derived from panchatantra. Merely pointing to existing traditions of stories about anthropomorphic animals is not enough, and these literary creations were in use by Aesop and other ancient Greek writers as well.

I don’t understand this obsession with some Indians and self loathing Pakistanis to try and put the origin of everything in ‘ancient India’
