Is India planning a military base in Afghanistan?

No, they wouldn't dare. India is too scared of Pakistani response. India even refused Afghanistan heavy weaponry during President Karzai's era.

Think about it for a second, what could an Indian airbase in Afghanistan achieve? Are they going to declare war on Taliban and then have the guts to take them head on. No. India learnt it's lesson in Sri Lanka during its 1980s misadventure. Since then, darpoke Indian military has been in the state of a never ending coma.

What if we decide to cross the durand line? Afghan army is not capable of stopping us.

The thing is India has a base in Tajikistan. Its no secret. They have a long term strategy. They just signed the Rafale deal. Their economy is growing at 7.5%. They are best friends forever with Afghans now. They have Chabahar.

As i was saying in another thread. Time for war with India is now. It will stop their evonomic growth along with their military ambition. I really dont understand why the media is anti war while Indian media is crazy for it. We should do it now or else there would be no chance in the future.

I meant a proper base with permanent military hardware. Can we stop it if we receive intel that Indians are planning on one.

It is an understanding between the two ally countries,we can't interference in the both independent countries.

Well it definitely is in India's interest. The idea seems radical from an Indian perspective though. A lot of diplomatic maneuvering and sustainable military prowess will be required. But this has to wait until completion of Chabahar Port project. Chabahar is viewed as a major 'friendship building' step between the tri-states. Having said that India already has Farkhor Air base in Tajikistan, which happens to be just near Tajik-Afghan border and hence reasoning defeats the purpose of a base inside volatile Afghanistan.

So many bases already there hosting, Americans, Brits, NATO, French, Albanians, Canadians. Indians will have a tough time penetrating these and I reckon despite all the financial & military aid Afghans themselves are going to allow it.

* Giving Afghanistan financial and military aid

* Sending over military officers as advisers

* Training their military and civil service in India

* Financing and building many civilian projects

* Building another consulate

* Building Chabahar port with the intent to connect to Afghanistan

* in complete control of the Afghan government

So could we expect India to build a military base on Afghan soil in the pretext to protect their assets and timelines involved. And moreover, what could we do to stop it?
