Is India Interested in Malaysian MIG-29 Jets

The story below is self-explainatory but the sale left us wondering how Malaysia going to sell our Mig-29 jets.

With a reported price tag of RM300 million for all 16 Mig-29 jets, lock, stock and barrel, it will be much cheaper for anyone else to buy new planes from Russia.

It also appears with the latest development we may have to accept the offer from Russia to trade the Mig-29 jets for 6 Su-30MKM jets but Mindef is still hoping that we will find another buyer soon.

Malaysian Defence Blog Archive Who will buy our Migs?

300 million divided by 16 = 18.75 million each mig-29 :woot:

We have to see the condition of the planes and the amount of upgrades needed for the plane.

Either way thats 16 mig-29's at 30 million max.

that to the price is in Malaysian Rupee, in absolute dollar terms its still cheaper around $87 Million

thats a bargain buy and place on our Mig-29 upgrade line.

We can can get Mig-29 SMT for dirt cheap prices.

bad man........ in my openion we should go for the MIG 29 and also the Mirage 2009 of UAE.

Already our fighter strength is falling well below the 39 squadren level. and new inductions are as far as 2015, let it be LCA or MMRCA. its the best option we have. & also no extra cost on Infrastructure or pilot training.

At $5.5M per piece!!
Seems too good to be true.
And can be upgraded to smt at a very low cost.

We should grab the oppurtunity, they can be flown for another 10-15 years. And at such cheap prices, its a complete bargain.

And if we don't buy them, someone else would. Now that could be a bit trouble.

in my opinion we must go for mk2 from UAE that is way better than migs

Guys who said UAE was even willing to sell anyone M2K? This is an internet rumor. Focus on the MiG 29 of Malaysia. I think there is something inherently wrong with the picture, SMT upgrade could have been pursued by the Malays if everything was fine with these aircraft. They are probably unfit for such a lengthy upgradation. The price is almost unrealistic, their condition must be close to shambles.

5.5 mil$ for a mig-29...either author is lost his sane or it is some typo....

if it is indeed the quoted price then buy these and from malaysia transfer them directly to israel for upgrades and get a mig-29mki ...within 20 mil$.

and we already operate mig29s. 16 more would add strength to the arsenal and at these prices, its worth. We can also upgrade them by ourselves, so its not a bad buy.
