Third world just represents the econonimally backward & poorer countries. There are developed nations, developing nations and under-developed (or undeveloped) nations. 3rd world is the last one. It is not a formal or legal term. Just representational. China is definitely NOT 3rd world. Sleep peacefully.

Even India is "developing" since like ever. May be it will always remain "developing". Corruption & crab-mentality is so deep that, even if India becomes the richest country in the world, a vast number of Indians will be fooled, exploited & will struggle for basic needs.

We never argue that we are a developing country, every Chinese knows it. But some Indians keep calling us a third world country which is not a common term in China, so I would like to know whether this term is more political or economic.

This terms is primarily a political one. During the Cold War, nations aligned with the US (which were also at a certain level of economic development Western Europe and Japan) were called first world. Countries allied (and nominally socialist) with the Soviet Union which were mostly in eastern and central Europe Were considered “second world”. Those basically non-white countries that were anything less than a developed nation were called third world.

Third world is a political and honestly a racial term.

Moreover, the west with Coronavirus is a big Chernobyl.

China has cities more developed than some Western cities, and also they have a lot of towns less developed than western towns.
