What's new

Is China bigger or the rest of East Asia and ASEAN combined together bigger?

Vikings can into Empire too:

The land area of the union was as large as 3,000,000 square kilometres under the rule of Margaret I of Denmark.

Greenland doesn't really count.

but wer ist de sveden? ;)

Yeah, seem strange doesn't it? A large chuck of Sweden left out of the Kalmar Union? But here's why:

Nothern Sweden is cold and mountainous... not exactly prime real-estate for an aspiring empire:

No one wanted it. Not the Kalmar Union, nor Russia or anyone else. It was too cold and too inhospitable to bother with.

Not even the hardy Norsemen ventured that far north:

Northern Norway is cold, but less mountainous. Plus the water allows for swift travel by sea, That Northern Sweden was left alone was no accident.

Greenland doesn't really count.

Still Danish until someone endeavours to reclaim it - still counts towards their imperial size:

You're free to argue the legality of the claim with the inhabitants:partay:.

What army do these handsome soldiers belong to? Can i enlist? ;)

Those are Danish special forces. Greenland doesn't have a standing military, nor does Iceland - NATO rotates member nations through Iceland on defense duties - so Denmark picks up the slack.

Can you enlist? Sure, hope you like whale blubber though, it's cold in the north:D.

*the rest of my post didn't show up, but I've fixed it, including my response to your inquiry about Sweden. You got the alert I'm guessing, but not the message.

Are there any natural resources ? Oil? Gas fields in the northern territories of Sveden?

Why China and Japan can't get along? Were you sleeping in the stone age and just woke up? I suppose many foreigners are totally clueless about the ancient relations between China,Japan and Korea to this very day. Many don't know that the modern Japanese (many of them) have Chinese blood  since Chinese migrated to Japan and mixed with their locals since the Qin Dynasty. Chinese culture has influenced the Japanese immensely (food, writing system, clothing, architecture, garden, tea, buddhism, eating with chopsticks, weiqi, color carp breeding, art etc..) Okay the hentai, adult entertainment industry and anime have nothing to do with us  (that's typical Japanese culture, jokes aside). The cultural influence on Korea is the same, many things originated from China including the writing style until the Koreans adopted their own.

We had good relations with Japan, but Japan had tried to invade Korea few times and with the help of China we kicked the Japanese back to their island. Plus Japanese started to get arrogant and saw their empire as an equal to the Chinese empire. So yeah there were ups and downs between Chinese/Koreans with the Japanese. You have to understand Japan geographically speaking has no resources, constantly plagued by earthquakes and tsunamis. So they wanted to get on the Mainland Korea. It was during the Meiji era the Japanese went to the West and copied its tech and started to industrialize. With their militarization the Japanese tried to conquer East, South East and South Asia during WW2. The Japanese committed crimes far worse than the Nazis in China and that's the main reason why many Chinese and Koreans included dislike the Japanese. Many books and youtube videos are available of what the Japanese did so you can do your own research.

That's not what I said, which was "why can't Japan and China get along?" There's a difference...

VERY INTERESTING! Never knew about that , till now. Thank You.

Oh I love , love, LOVE, whale meat. I love it raw, fresh, mmmm! Prefer humpback whale, tho a bit pricy. Tastes really good. They serve that ? If yes, imma enlist!

PS. is danish language hard to understand? to master?

Of course we can get along. Its like an elder brother , younger brother relationship. Think of China as a very gentle, stubborn-headed older brother, Japan as an aggressive , younger brother.

I already answered to what you said, if you can't get the message then go do your own research rather than asking ignorant question.

Hahahaha, big boss and younger subordinate? Can you really describe Japan as a subordinate of China? Most of our history was inked with contention and war for regional control and supremacy.

China is the older of the two civilization; hence he is the elder brother. China is slow to evolve political dictum and implements policy late in the game, hence i attribute the Chinese state with the 'stuborn-minded' aspect.

China, in its >5000 year history has been mostly benign, never truly expansionist per se, in fact China's borders only expanded when her population expanded. She was mostly a reactionary civilization, defensive in most cases. Hence i attribute the descriptive as "gentle".

China is thus a gentle-spirited, stubborn-headed, older brother.

By the way in the Chinese zodiac..that is the...

Nippon banzai! Did I rub someone the wrong way, Mr. Nihon jin?

No, of course not, Hiro-san. ;)

Pen pal i was merely describing the Sino-Japanese relation in the future that is set in the magic stone tablet
But ofcourse there was a time Japan was a subordinate of China until Japan thought of itself as the equal of China. :D

Ever read into Li Po's poetry, my pen pal? :)

I'll recommend you one:

花間一壺酒
獨酌無相親
舉杯邀明月
對影成三人
月既不解飲
影徒隨我身
暫伴月將影
行樂須及春
我歌月徘徊
我舞影零亂
醒時同交歡
醉後各分散
永結無情游
相期邈雲漢

Stubborn has nothing to do with it, we did have 1006 years of domination of xxxxxxx  overall we can all agree China has always been more successful than Japan considering the size of our land, the population and the many inventions and influences of the East Asian region. Our influence was even very important to all the way to the Middle East through the famous silk road. Don't forget of the Great Zheng He who sailed all the way to Africa
