What's new

Is Bangladesh moving towards one-party state?

A lot of BD posters cannot see the big picture here.

What AL are doing is pretty much a mirror match of what happened in places like Taiwan and S Korea.
People should accept an element of corruption and thuggery for the long-term prosperity and health of BD.

What we are seeing now in terms of economic growth(8% a year) and infrastructure development will not have happened if BD had the usual AL/BNP rotation every five years.

The worst thing to now happen is if any other party got into power as the next 5 years will be spent re-tendering a lot of infrastructure projects/military acquisitions and also punishing the AL party for both real and point-settling reasons.

5 more years of AL rule is still needed for the economy, infrastructure and military buildup to be on a footing that a change of government will not ruin all this.

Look I give credit to BAL for their development initiative but this does not justify BCL thuggery. BAL's achievements are despite BCL's thuggery not because of it.

I totally understand your concern regsrding a Khaleda led old BNP coming to power and undoing all the development work as they did in the past.

However, a new, progressive political movement be it a reformed BNP or a new party would not undo the development work but rather take it further.

If no honest opposition manages to risein time I wojld rather have Hasina-led BAL for another term so thst they can complete the major projects.

However, the current student protests must go on until all political parties realise that none of them are indispensable.

Is there any such progressive-minded party/politician can be found in the country? Article 70 has capped any possibility of a young generation leader to surface up. Also, the young generation does not mean a group of students who passed just SSC or MA, or who are agitating in the streets. More matured people with a vision should come out who are already in politics. But, Article 70 puts a hindrance to it. Once a guy is with BNP or BAL, he cannot just come out of it because of this article.

Article 70 restricts voting rights of elected membdrs. How does it bar one from reforming a party or formig a new one?

Easy for you to say, you don't even live in the god damn country.

I agree, but is there any solution ? Look even court said that they can't interfere .
So when and how does it end if no political party agree to changed it? I also believe that this article should be abolished, but how? Westminster system and article 70 can't run side by side.
Could you please share your opinions?

Article 70 restricts voting rights of elected membdrs. How does it bar one from reforming a party or formig a new one?
Form a new party, choose a leader and get popularity.
Then do start bad works after election, and all members will follow you as we are not very patriot as we pretend to be.
So if any real good member in this newly formed party vote against the party then he will be kicked out too.
Because other members will not speak for him because it will harm there interest.
Since they are not patriot, so no reason to give priority the interest of peoples and country over their own interests.
It's proven now. So zei lau sei kodu. Only abolition of articles 70 can make a man vote against his party and still can remain as MP.
So forming new party will be actually useless and forming new party and establishing it isn't easy.
So in order to elevate democracy, Article 70 must be abolished.

You are an Awami Chotona ignorant. Do you think people will vote for BAL even if you keep on lamenting in the Pakistan Defence Forum? Let there be a free and fair election, let people choose their MPs, and let the MPs choose the PM of the country. Why are you soooo crying for Hasina? Ershad and Khaleda time saw the completion of Jamuna Bridge. A ten year in power, yet Hasina Bibi is incapable of completing even 30% of the Padma Bridge. But, you are talking as if the country is awash with bridges, culverts, roads, and highways. At least, Hasina should have freed the Dhaka citizens from waterlogging curse.

It is very difficult to give an elaborate answer to the question you asked. I will only give you one example of what this Article 70 can or cannot do. It was the last BNP time. Some BNP insiders conspired to oust President Badruddoza Chowdhury. They manipulated Begum Zia when she was in the US (?) for a knee operation.

The short-sighted Khaleda was fuming when she returned. She already decided to impeach the President. After only a short discussion in the BNP Parliamentary meeting instead of asking the BNP members to give their opinion in a secret ballot she raised her hand and asked others to do so if they want the President to be removed. Slowly but one by one they HAD to raise their hand in support of Begum Zia. It is all because of Article 70.

It was first included because of Sk. Mujib wanted it. This Clause suited also the next two Executive Presidents, Zia and Ershad. But, after the fall of Ershad both the current women wanted to make best use of this Clause to keep their own respective MPs under control.

Now, the MPs are so controlled by the two leaders that they cannot just criticize their party. You have to understand that no new person is likely to form his own party that will become popular unless that person is a known political personality. On the other hand, political personalities are also not able to come out of the two parties and form a new party. All the hands are tied and the country suffers due to a vacuum. @Centaur , @Atlas

@bluesky,
well , even if you can remove 70 article, then be sure there is no future of Westminster system in this savage country.
Neither with 70 article nor without it .
Bengalis are hero worshipper although there is no single hero in this land, but all are villains.
You saw the two new villains in this forum ?
Old users an both are expat , one is advocate of killing kids in another thread in order to continue ( wtf is that )this beheshti development continue, and the other is declaring most of of kids are BNP jamat and anti bangladeshi folks.
My question is who the fuuuuuukkkkk is anti bangladeshi ? Who don't support awami randi league who raped girls and killed boys ?
And fuckers are sending messages to mobile? let me write it here,
"রাজধানীর ঝিগাতলায় ছাত্র হত্যা ও ছাত্রী ধর্ষণের ঘটনার কোন সত্যতা নেই।বিষয়টি পুরোপুরি গুজব।এতে কেউ বিভ্রান্ত হবেন না।পুলিশকে গুজব রটনাকারীদের বিরুদ্ধে তথ্য দিয়ে সহযোগিতা করুন : স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়"

So who will protest it he/she will be anti BD ,?
In bangladesh we need military rules for 20+ years.
Only military danda Counter the rapists .
If we need fucking autocracy then no awami autocracy .
i don't want digital bangla, even don't want electricity in life , first I want to be alive alongside others .
So kick out BAL bastards, then peoples will live and then we will think about constitution.
Not before that .
I was feeling sick when I read those post of those specific users in another thread .

PS: I am really loosing interest of this forum.
Firstly because if the experience of that day with the remark of high ranks of this forum by generalizing all bangladeshi , and now for the two awami league sangat ( স্যাঙাত) in this forum who are advocating for killing kids by declaring them as jamat bnp .
I have an advice for our folks .
Remove khaleda and tareq and also ban whole awami league from bd , arrest every awami rapist for life time , Bangladesh will be Democratic so fast .
Otherwise no use of even abolition of 70 article ( as Atlas suggested above) since all are just bastards , as birds of feather always flock together , those rapist swine will stick together even without this 70 article.

This vicious circle can perform very well together without this 70 article. So destroy this circle , Bangladesh will be elivated automatically.
