IRST for Pakistan F-16s is possible

@Oscar
It is the ranging part that I am talking about also, it uses laser! and in that regard it is detectable, maybe you do not know much about IRST.. I have shared a link in my post # 29

An infra-red search and track (IRST) system (sometimes known as infra-red sighting and tracking) is a method for detecting and tracking objects
IRST is a generalized case of forward looking infrared (FLIR), i.e. from forward-looking to all-round situation awareness. Such systems are passive (thermographic camera), meaning they do not give out any radiation of their own, unlike radar. This gives them the advantage that they are difficult to detect.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infra-red_search_and_track#Later_systems
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infra-red_search_and_track#Later_systems
So it is NOT a targeting pod like SNIPER per say, but from the same source above:

IRST systems can incorporate laser rangefinders in order to provide full fire-control solutions for cannon fire or launching missiles (Optronique secteur frontal). The combination of an atmospheric propagation model, the apparent surface of the target, and target motion analysis (TMA) IRST can calculate the range.

Our Military relations with US are over. So Pakistan shouldnt even expect a screw driver from them now. They are not even clearing our requirement for GRC for martime patrol. In short dont waste your time by suggesting american equipment.
Americans still have to deliver the 15 AH-1 Vipers and it would be a bad idea to completely cut our military ties with americans. They still have the best technology and will remain a superpower for the foreseeable future

What is the use of technology which comes with preconditions. Our F16 Rotted away when Americans imposed sanctions on us. Same will be the fate of other technologies we will obtain from them. Their technology is the best but when was the last time they gave their best technology to Pakistan. We get technology that belongs to 90,s era.

Let me know when we actually get something from US untill then dont waste my Time.

$800 Million from the CSF, minus the bs over afridi/ haqqani. What do you think the CSF is spent on?

It's not JF-17s from PAC/ China.
Neither is it for AK103s from Russia.
But M-17s were supported by the CSF.

Anything equipment or training Pakistan wants to buy using the CSF has to be approved by Congress. Even screwdrivers.

How do you think the SSG/N/W get M4s or NVG?
PAF gets fuel for their F-16s?
Navy getting P3s?

As far as the GRC it was more than that.

The Government of Pakistan has requested the purchase of 8 43-meter Global Response Cutters (GRC43M). Each Cutter will be a mono-hull design made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). Also included in this sale: outfitted 8 25mm or 30mm Naval Gun Systems, 32 M2-HB .50 caliber machine guns, 32 7.62mm guns, 8 8- meter Rigid Inflatable Boats, ballistic/armor protection of critical spaces, command and control equipment, communication equipment, navigation equipment, support equipment, spare and repair parts, tools and test equipment, technical data and publications, personnel training, U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics and program support. The total estimated cost is $350 million.

I understand you're pissed off about not getting a merely 8 F-16s not many countries can make state of the art multi-role jets, but you'r angry at not getting at a 43 meter patrol boat?

Any equipment of American origin Pakistan wants requires American approval. Be it Block 15 F-16s for Jordan. Even MRVs from stocks in Afghanistan.

Start negotiations for SU35s or UAE Mirage2000s, and Congress will dangle 8 F-16s in front of the PAF Brass to reestablish control. Beggars cant be choosers.

Pakistan isn't worth the salt for US Congressmen/women to stick their necks out for. <-- Listen to that and reevaluate the priorities.

Like I said before, Grow your economy. With 200 million people, an official GDP of $1 trillion is $5,000 per capita. You'll have plenty of sway.

Edit, here's your 8 new F-16s: http://www.dawn.com/news/1267142/zardari-meets-senator-mccain-seeks-support-for-f-16-sale

Hi,

This idiot of an Air Chief Marshall Sohail Aman screwed it up bad for pakistan---first he threatened the U S---and then he would not accept no for an answer----.

Once the mood of change was seen in the congress---he should have withdrawn the request for the F16----.

But this thick headed man just kept on pushing right till the end---.

Don't think we need IRST as we are already using Sniper POD with our F-16s.

even limited tech received from USA of 90s is challenging for our enemies. The fact is if PAF is not bale to get any new platform to counter Rafaels and even existing Su30 and Mirage 2000 fleet up to 2020 the potential year for receiving fifth gen fighter then only F16 shall be able to challenge them up to some extent. Jf17 block-III will be available in limited numbers and may depend on nature of up gradation to pose any threat to enemy.

We have kept our F16s operational in the past despite sanctions and have the capability to do same in future with the help of some friendly countries as done in case of Mirage III/V.

I have wrote that people at PAF are not dumb to get second hand F16s which may become useless after sanctions.

We also have example of Iran how they are continuously upgrading and flying 70s era US fighter jets.

It's better that instead of getting handful new F16s with more or less similar capabilities as per or existing fleet to get second hand F16s and get them upgraded.

Realistically so far Pak has not signed any deal with Russia, China or EU for a new jet. If we sign a deal now at best we may be able to get deliveries by 2019.

I have humbly requested you in the past please stop abusing PAF officials individually as every decision is made by a whole team including PAF officials, Ministry of foreign affairs, defense affairs and foreign ministry which is weakest in all.
Contradicting personalities are running foreign affairs like Hilali, Fatimi and old horse Sartaj Azeez.

Further we have our own beloved Hussain Haqqani the agent of Jews who used to attend parties of Israeli officals and now lobbying against Pakistan Govt/Defense forces.

Sir,

Paf air chief needs to be roasted in public on live TV----. Just like he opened his mouth in the U S and threatened them---he should have used strategy afterwards when he learnt there were problems---.

The pakistani civilians may not understand tactics---but they are a daily routine for the military.

Hilali is just a tv commentator---he has no say.

Hussein Haqqani is no agent of Jews---he is a scumbag---and I know of him from Karachi university---.

https://www.geo.tv/latest/108442-Pakistan-needs-drone-technology-F-16s-Zardari-tells-US

LOS ANGELES: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has urged the US to provide drone technology and F-16 jets to Pakistan for use in the war against terrorism.

Zardari called on Senator John McCain and discussed the Pak-US relations. He said Pakistan was committed to rooting out terrorism and the US should provide it with drone technology and the F-16 jets. He said McCain had assured his full support for provision of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan.

In his meeting on Friday with the American senator, Zardari said Pakistani soldiers were sacrificing their lives in the war on terror. He also said Pakistan was affected by the menace of terrorism but the whole nation was committed to rooting out the menace.

Both McCain and Zardari agreed that democracy in Pakistan should be allowed to grow and thrive. Zardari was also of the view that relations between Pakistan and the United States must further be strengthened.

well seems like Neocon McCain is Pro-Pakistan . If Pakistan and U.S are willing to work a lot closer to destroy the Taliban then I don't see a problem with us subsizing the F-16 cost and giving Pakistan drones like the M2 Shadow

as for IRST for F-16, if you got the money I don't see why Pakistan shouldn't get it.

@araz agreed but if we had to go for 18 we should have gone for it when the original deal was signed instead of waiting for 10 years to make the choice....the deal for 8 aircraft was called off not because of money but uncertainity....the rumblings in the US Congress had given Pakistan the hint that even if they agree to pay for the craft it carried the risk of getting sanctioned....
The problem with most of us less fortunates without"source" or contacts in the armed forces is what we say is mostly conjecture. Why PAF did not repeat the order had multiple reasons probably including impeachment of the Musharraf government, PAF desire to ensure that the ordered 16s reached us safe and sound, the unit price and the pressure from other quarters to buy from them. Please also dont forget we had the most corrupt government ever in place with no vision other than to loot the country. Congress to date has not objected to sale and even in this instance it was not them. It was the per unit price which PAF didn't want to pay. So blaming congress alone is not a wise move. When the deal got anmounced a very dear friend said the babus in the PAF were totally oblivious to ground reàlities and the deal would face problems. My salute to his astuteness. Also why only 8 and open source quotes to the effect that PAF wanted to test the water and would make subsequent acquisitions next yr. Not a step to inspire your seller with confidence in you.

I don't see any problem with the congress not subsidizing the 8 F-16s. If pakistan wants to buy them, then it should pay for them, just like it pays for equipment from china or any other country.
The better option would be to invest those funds into the domestic development of fighter jets or into educations.

Ah F 16, my Aziz hum watno what can I say to your good selves. There is a saying which says " fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".

We are more Momin Khan Momin than true Momins. Heck sometimes I even doubt whether we are muslims or not. If we had been honest we would have had an economy which would have allowed us to buy whatever we wanted rather than go out with a begging bowl or build it in house just like the Turks did. So please let us not go there. As to being stung from the same hole we will continue to get stung till we get our act together. Our brothers whom we trust are doing it to us daily as well.
