Manipur has MELLOWED a lot

There is NO AFSPA in Imphal

Secondly the NAGA blockade of several months which was Broken by INDIAN ARMY
has made the Manipuris realise that without Indian Army ; they would STARVE

And you have Bangladesh on the other side

Their only hope is Indian Army

NEW DELHI: Manipuri rights activist Irom Sharmila+ , who has been demanding the repeal of controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act ( AFSPA+ ), has decided to break her fast of 16 years and said she will fight elections instead.

"I will break my fast as the government has failed to give any positive response. I will fight elections to resolve the issues," she said on Tuesday.

She will break her fast on August 9.

Assembly elections in Manipur are scheduled in 2017.

Irom has been on a hunger strike since November 2000, when 10 civilians were killed by security forces at a bus stop near Imphal airport.

The fasting agitator, who is being fed through a nasal tube, has justified using the fast as a weapon to achieve her goal of repealing AFSPA.

"Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, had resorted to fasts while making certain demands," she has said.

She had been arrested, released and then re-arrested from time to time on the charge of making an attempt to commit suicide.

She belied in the Constitution , hence she fasted and sat peacefully . The same constitution which gives her the right to do so .

She was fed through a nasal tube.
Its upto a reader to decide, if that was technically a fast or not.

Not being an expert on the subject i am not sure , but i think she did not want a free manipur , i believe she want ASPFA removed.
Now she is a lady with some stature , calling her foolish does not make you intelligent . kindly refrain from abusing people , put your point of view without the abuse. It will help you , of course you are fee to disregard me completely .

She wanted AFSPA removed at the HEIGHT of insurgency
which would have only benefitted the Insurgents and made India 's problems bigger

Her hunger strike was SPONSORED by Militants to make her demands look Gandhian

Her AIM was to MALIGN India and Indian Army

Anyway both her hunger strike and she herself have out lived their "sell by date "

Ironically Manipur needs the Protection of Indian Army to keep their ROADS open
or else the NAGAS will starve them

Nagas are muuch stronger and well organised

Nagas are also claiming a part of Manipur as greater Nagaland

AFSPA is a time bomb. its blasting in Kashmir, tomorrow it will be NE.
only ppl who have tasted AFSPA in the wrong side will know what i am talking about.
AFSPA must go. security agencies are committing grave crimes in the name of security. 1 instance of such crimes will give birth to more extremists.

I agree that sometimes Armed forces were misusing it,but AFSPA is required to maintain stability,if not in Manipur then certainly in Kashmir.Tell me,you've seen riots when Army shot dead a terrorist.Any other country of the world and you'd see Tanks crushing these rioters or would make an example of it.You've an example right in front of your eye,Pakistan.

When it comes about TTP,they don't even publish what is the casualty or level of destruction that happened in Zarb e Azb.And here we are,discussing heavy handedness on terrorist sympathizers,the same terrorism that killed or wounded tens of thousands in Kashmir,and which is being funded and operated as tool from across the border.

What i admire was her conviction , 16 yrs !!!
I may not agree with what she was protesting but i do respect her for sticking on for so long . Glad to see she has had a change of heart, fighting an election is probably the best thing for her to bring about change within the framework of our laws.
