BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday that the Tabas and Mersad systems have been able to destroy air targets with complete success.

According to the Tasnim Agency, the air defense exercises between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard units and the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran continued, pointing out that the”surface-to-air missiles struck the enemy’s virtual targets and were completely destroyed.”

The Revolutionary Guard’s mid-range TPS missile system also tested its readiness during the maneuvers by launching missiles towards targets, which destroyed the enemy’s virtual targets.

Spokesman for the “Wilayat 97” maneuvers, Admiral Sayyid Mahmoud Mousavi, confirmed the success of firing Shalamjah missiles and a dummy system, explaining by saying that “the manufacture and use of locally advanced equipment and technologies indicates that Iran can provide all its military needs by relying on internal capabilities.”

Iran has been expanding their missile systems as part of their determination to strengthen their armed forces, despite condemnation from the U.S. authorities.

So what's the difference between Tabas and 3rd of Khordad? Does Tabas use a new type of missile or have another type of radar?

3rd of Khordad is a more advanced air defence that uses an AESA radar and longer ranged missiles. Tabas uses a less sophisticated radar system, but it is also a cheaper solution than the 3rd of Khordad.

Tabas is old. Just look at that picture and it’s radar for a hint. It’s older radar, but cheaper to produce and field.

3rd of Khordad is newer and more capable Radar but more expensive to produce and operate.

ideally you use 3rd of Khordad in more high value areas/zones/gaps while having Tabas defend areas before that.

The thinking is that Tabas defends less important areas and provides forward warning to 3rd of Khordad that is deeper stationed. Thus an enemy first has to pass by Tabas before reaching 3rd of Khordad sphere of influence.

This isn’t exclusive to Tabas just medium range systems in general.

From where the hell you guys are getting technology?

Reverse engineering on old systems (BUK) as well as reverse engineering on newer radars. Combine the two along with expertise in SA missile and you can develop a SAM.

Any pictures of “TPS” missile system?

Also was Mersad the predecessor to Talash SAM?

as far as Im aware Mersad still use Shakamcheh and Shahin missile , it has another upgrade called kamin-2 which made the system portable and use an upgraded missile that increased its range

I taught we no longer buid systems based on Shhahin and Shalamcheh missiles

Hawk missile is still a decent SAM especially for short range engagements against UAVs/Low flying jets/Helicopters.

Mersad Variants/Kamin-2 is Iran’s Pantsir system for now till Iran releases a dedicated short range mobile system. Not to mention it is probably fairly cheap to produce compared to Raad/BUK/Khordad family and Bavar family.

I would pick Mersad over Pantsir right now based on how poorly Pantsir has performed against drones in Syria.

problem with mersad is that it's bulky and not too much portable
and 3rd of khordad & 15 khordad have thrice the range of Buk-M2 so it's hard to put them in the same category
for short range and point defence system we need something that can cope with swarm of targets and Mersad and Kamin-2 are not what you want to use against swarm tactics , their missiles are big , expensive and very soon will ran out of ammo .

by the way if I'm not wrong Kamin-2 is Iran attempt to pair Taer and Sayyad missiles to Hawk Fire control and Radars

first tell me what do you mean by (TPS).

no Mersad is an New and updated version of Shalamche system it has range of 40-50 km Talash goes beyond 100 km range.

Shalamche system also known as Mersad-1
