Iraqi air force jet accidentally bombs Baghdad

.
The worst thing is that how they let a plane full of bomb load pass through an urban area if it was up to me I fire the head of the air force right away.

And lash him one hundreds time for that mistake.

Didn't you know Baghdad was a holy city for Shiites?...

No. It is actually Najaf and Karbala that is most sacred for Shiites.

And you deserve a ban so that you can give yourself some much needed time. The time that is needed to make you mature.

Hi,

Extremely stupid comments from mostly Pakistani posters on who trained the pilot---. This is a tragic incident----the bomb got released but got stuck from the ejector rail----nothing to do with the incompetence of the pilot or who trained him.

He tried to dump it but it won't come off----.

agreed......just $hitty hardware, that's all....

although he could/may have avoided civilian areas to be safe....?

Najaf and Karbala are not the most sacred the real sacred one are Mecca and Madina the Najaf and Karbala.

But he was stupid.

I would investigate it to see if that guy Baathi or not.

Baathis the most savages creature they can do every filthy crime.

You are not a mod. Also what I meant was that Iraqi Air Force could bomb holy cities of Mecca or Jerusalem "accidentally" with this level of incompetence.

First of all the deal of training Iraqi Air Force by PAF n its planes did not materialize at first place due to change in Govt in Iraq and subsequent loss of territory to isis. Secondly the bomb was hung and pilot had made six attempts to get rid of it but could not. He had to land in the end and this fortunate accident took place. A tragic incident indeed.

No. This could happen to any hardware by any manufacturer. The worst scenario would be maintenance related. All mechanisms are -- or should be -- routinely inspected and tested as to functionality regardless of whether a particular carrier have been flown X hrs or not. If the carrier was in storage for yrs, the first thing before installing on the jet would have been to perform full functionality tests, which would include secure/release mechanisms.

No way to know if he could given the paucity of details of the event.

Iraqi air force jet accidentally bombs Baghdad - BBC News
The pilot made six attempts to dislodge the bomb after it became stuck during the attack, according to the military.

It then fell as the plane overflew the capital, destroying several houses.
Where, as in airspace in relation to the ground, did he attempted to dislodge the hung bomb ? We do not know.

How did he do it ? One way all pilots are trained to do is to 'cycle' the arm/release process, meaning repeatedly turning the on/off 'Master Arm' switch, or whatever Russian equivalent, then 'pickle' the bomb. Another is to try to literally shake the hung bomb off the rail by aircraft movements. The pilot, regardless of who trained him, would have been smart enough to do so over unpopulated areas, or at least we can assume he would be that conscious of his situation. If the article is correct that the pilot made six attempts, we can be safe in assuming he tried everything he knew.

Then how did the bomb felled upon populated areas ? There comes a point where the pilot must land and if he tried six times to dislodge the hung bomb, we are safe to assume that he was nearing alert fuel state. Runway approach may have had him overflown populated areas and this is where the tragedy occurred.

No pilot want to be with a hung bomb/missile situation regardless of nationality. For all the pilot know, he could safely land the jet and the bomb would drop the moment he come to a full stop, killing him and anyone -- his ground crew -- within the blast radius. So given the lack of details, people should stop making aspersions on the pilot's character and training.

Yeah that's why I complained you to a mod.

And I perfectly know what you wanted to say.
