In 1991 when the USSR fell and the gulf war started, the entire Muslim world sided with America. You may be right that Saddam was wrong to invade Kuwait, but it wasn't out of love for Kuwait that the Muslim world sided with America. It was their approval and trying to win brownie points with the new superpower. Suddenly after that the entire GCC was a military base for the US, as for Turkey it has always been a base for them.

Saddam was a great man, Arabs made a mistake.

My point is I'm not ashamed of the invasions, Iraq could've prevented all the invasions by behaving like Jordan or the GCC. Not a big achievement.

That's the outdated image of the army, the rebuilding process started in 2004 which is very long ago, and again in 2014. The current shape of the army dealt with ISIS in major battles, they've been very effective at war.

Ramadi, Fallujah, Mosul all these major cities were handled by the Iraqi forces solely, with US-led airpower support. The air component is what Iraq lacks.

Stacking large numbers of tanks and artillery is not a priority as much as filling the gap in air power given the current threats. Iraq's military threats come from mainly 3 sources; ISIS, Iran related groups challenging the state military and Turkey.

Rebuilding the air force is one part of many things that need fixing, but it is an important part.

It just some banter, but what he's saying is he doesn't want Iran and Turkey to interfere in his country's politics. Iran arms proxy militias in Iraq to threaten the Iraqi gov't and advance Iranian interests while Turkey embarks on operations in northern Iraq without their permission some of the times. He doesn't mind cooperation with them but he also believe in sovereignty of his nation.

I think this sovereignty approach is a weak one as well, I miss the 80's when the approach was far more hostile to these foreigners. It was a great time and Saddam was a good man. The good old days.
