you had some nice defense against spain, but it ultimately built the pressure on the game, there is no fun watching a team which cannot score and tbh iranians never looked like a goal scoring team in the world cu infact their last 2 world cups, did they score a goal? i dont remember. morocco on the other hand made many attacks, but were just unlucky t make own goal.

i didn't watch the portugal game tbh, so cannot comment on the game, but protugal team is very pathetic, the only guy making them look good is ronaldo, not even nani guy.

idk, a well drilled defensive team can be good to watch. Look at Iceland vs Argentina. At some points they were so well defensively organised and compact you could see the formation on the pitch as a TV viewer. They were very well drilled.

Of course it's not like tikka takka or Brazil but it's still an art form. Much like appreciating a test batsman for keeping his wicket safe and playing over after over to avoid defeat. Those who can do that, have a talent.

That is the problem with Carlos’ game plan. By playing extremely defensive at all times, you are forcing your players to capitalize on fewer and fewer offensive opportunities. Unfortunately for Iran, their attackers are not good enough for such a stratergy.

Iran’s passing is still very poor and dribbling also poor. They can connect the first and second pass, but not the 3rd or if they do get in front of the goal they miss the shot.

Iran really needs to focus on offense for next 4 years as well as improving their passing.

Against Spain they showed that they can play effective offense and still play adequate defense. But against Morrocoo and Portugal they once again played very conservative defensive only.

i prefer attack and goals scoring tbh, defense is not something i admire, i give it, iranians had good defense, but a team with no attack defending is just seeing a team ready for slaughter at any moment. and its also painful to watch if you are backing that team. i always back underrated team tbh, morocco could have qualified if it had not lost again iran and won against spain tbh, portugal didn't look too good in the group.

There should have been a VAR review for penalty box after Iranian player was grabbed from behind and taken to the ground in penalty box.

Referee refused to ask for VAR and even stopped play to tell Iran coach to calm down.

Unbelivable. Iran in fact should have 2 penalty box kicks awarded.

But in the end Iran had chance to win it with late goal, but Mehdi completely botched the shot into the side net.

Both Mehdi and jahanbaksh were useless this World Cup. Sardar Azmoon looked lost offensively and Made his title of “Iranian Messi” a cruel joke.

Did coach also ask him to choke whenever he got the ball? Absurd!

Several times he had potential to score and would either lose control of the ball dribbling, make a bad pass, or make a bad read.

While it’s true coach asked him to play a lot more defensive, he was Iran prime attacker.

Overall, this World Cup Iran just didn’t capaitalize on opportunity which has been a theme in past world cups as well. But it is also very hard to capitalize when you only get 4 shots all game because you are unable to attack.

I expected progression after the Spain game and instead we got regression in Portugal game and part of it was Carlos fault. His plan was to go into half 0-0. Not sure that was the right call.

Iran played the World Cup perfectly despite the outcome! Props to them and their coach!!! Hope he sticks with us till the next one! Our coach built a team that was good enough to win everyone of it's games in probably the hardest group in the world cup! And we ended our group with only a 1 point deferential with the top team in our group!

Fact is Iran's main problem was nerves!!!!!!!!!! Iranian football players don't have the experience playing against high profile teams and in such a high profile game as players like Ronaldo do! where the entire world is watching them! And when you get eliminated because of 1 point then nerves is what made the difference!

Which means when it came to finishing the attacks with a goal the pressure was too much and they got overly nerves! To top that off Iran had a bunch of canceled friendlies prior to the world cup which effected their early stages of the 1st game against Morocco and the reason the Moroccan player put a ball in his own net was because there was an Iranian player right next to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't intentional or an accidental deflection or a freak accident! It was pressure and a direct attack from Iran that caused it!
But games against Spain and Portugal were perfectly played with great strategy the rest was just nerves, some bad calls and some bad luck!


Iran only gave up 2 goals in the world cup. One was just a bad luck deflection off a Spanish player & that was just luck and in the same game Iran practically had a goal stolen from them in my book. The other was almost an impossible shot from the protégées player and again in the same game it was nerves that cost us the game or else opportunity to finish it was there.

Our goalkeeper saved a penalty shot from Ronoldo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And our defense and midfielders were outstanding in counters and our forwards did the work and all the running but got nervous at the end!

I can comfortably say Iran hands down has one of the top 3 defenses in the world! And today is probably one offensive player short of being in the top 10 ranked teams in the world.
