TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said they would not bow to pressure and threatened to "punch" the U.S., in their first response to Washington's plan to list them as a terrorist organization, newspapers reported Saturday.
Local press in the Iranian capital of Tehran quoted Revolutionary Guards leader Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi saying that he could understand Washington's ire toward the group because of their "leverage" against the U.S.

"America will receive a heavier punch from the guards in the future," he was quoted as saying in the conservative daily Kayhan. "We will never remain silent in the face of U.S. pressure and we will use our leverage against them."

There was no elaboration on what Safavi meant by the punch or the organization's "leverage."

Washington has accused the Guards of supporting militias and insurgent groups attacking U.S. forces in Iraq -- charges Iran denies.

The fact that the remarks, made on Thursday in the central Iranian city of Isfahan, appeared in local newspapers rather than the official state news outlets suggest the comments are for domestic consumption.

Meanwhile, other Iranian officials continued to speak out against Washington's move to register the group as a terrorist organization, with a government spokesman calling the claims "baseless," on the Web site of the state broadcasting company.

. . . . .
They are the uniformed soldiers, part of the Iranian Armed Forces. United States might have commented on them due to their affairs in countering United States interests in Iraq. However, like i thought it would be a major policy change if they considered it to be a terrorist organization, which i believed has been taken back.

Revolutionary Gurad will only face USM when invaded, Imho any US strike on Iran will be restricted to air assault only.
Tomahawks will be flying all over Iran paralysing the country. Once the nuclear infrastraucture is destroyed US will have no reason to invade, Teheran will fall under civil pressure.

.
I dont think US invasion on Iran will lead to pressure on Tehran from the civilian side. Currently, US no reason to invade Iran, and the government of Iran has the full civilian support as well as of the armed forces. US strike on Iran will lead to disturbance all over the world. Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria will be the fighting pads to curb US interests. If Pakistan comes in between all this. It would effect us too significantly. I wonder what our position would be, but i do know launching pads for United States can be used from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

.
US has had enough of invasions. They will attack Iran, cripple it and then withdaw before iranians can organise a guerilla warfare network. I think Iran-US war would be like the invasion of iraq in 1991.

US rheotoric is helping Ahmedinjad hold on to power. His critics are made to shut up by showing this 'great looming danger'.

If anything, this has boosted the patriotism amongst the Iranian soldiers, and further solidified the fact that the US is an agressive enemy towards Iran. The Us has nothing on Iran, and they know Iran can without much effort cause havok for them in both of the Muslim countries they occupy.

and as for our su-47s childish remarks, on what basis do you think it can be a 1991 scenario? you are completely and utterly unaware of any facts on the ground, and the situation at hand. Iran today is several times stronger than iraq in 1991, usa in 1991 was not in the flawed and battered position it is today, and Iran has huge public support and not to mention Russia air defence, and a fully functional missile program that should be able to target both india and israel.

.
i respect iran for standing up to the devil unlike some other muslim country's sucking up to the devil.no names mentioned, muslim nation helping to destory another muslim nation what a shame "puppet's are us" no wonder the devil think's it could do anything it like in the middle east.
