Iranian economy on the verge of collapse

Iran's Rial: Bad policy or Western sanctions?

Riot police in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have fought with protesters angry over the sharp fall in Iran's currency, the Rial.

Hundreds of demonstrators turned out on Wednesday to demand the governor of the central bank step down. They also accused their president of financial mismanagement.

The Rial has fallen to a record low against the US dollar in recent days.

"The cause of all this misery is because of the exchange control that was imposed at the beginning of the Islamic revolution. The death knell of any economy is when you impose exchange control because you introduce black-market economy…and it starts with the currency."

Babak Emamian, the chairman of the British Iranian Business Council

There is some truth to this essay.

We all know that Mullees and Ayatullees are trying to run a country in 21st century, and yet they want to consult books from 7th century and use economic models that are now 1400 years old.

These idiots were supported by none other than the trader class of Iran.

Now the same trader class is rioting. It shows that traders in Iran were idiots to support Mullees.

It also shows that perhaps finally the Ayatullees are losing their support base.

Who knows what will come out of it.

I pray for the safety of Iranian people. They are so nice and beautiful people. Too bad they are stuck with the likes of Shah, or the Ayatullees, or the commies like Tudeh and khalq.

peace.

. . .
The steady response that Iran has maintained against the western countries and particularly US, comes from the early years of terrible exploitation that USA and UK did against Iranian government. First they overthrew a democratically elected leader. While the Shah was initially good, he turned out to be extremely despotic and people again fell into the trap of "anyone but him".

The kicking out of royalty resulted in an even more socially repressive government with policies that would take Iran backwards rather than forward, isolating her from rest of the world. The government ruling Tehran has also weakened the nation's position by letting the Arabs have all the privilege in the region. Arabia's currencies are high, their oil sells massively, economies are insulated and their armies are equipped with powerful modern Western weapons. None of which is in the case of modern Iran.

It is very important for Iranian government to realize that one doesn't have to go to the other extreme to be safe from exploitation.

For instance, a vast majority of Asia was under colonial rule during 19th and earlier centuries. There was a hostile attitude people had towards the Europeans whether they were referred to as "firangi" in India or "Gwailow" in China.

However, post-colonial era, none of the Asian countries cut ties with them, condemn west for everything and threaten to attack their allies.

Iran OTOH was never colonized by European powers (only Arabs conquered and morphed Iran centuries ago). Hence the extreme approach by the Ayatollah government is really harming the larger national interests of the country.

Self-reliance is a good thing but that doesn't mean isolating oneself.

Trade, business, foreign policies etc have to have a global broader picture.

Some of the most despicable and brainwashed people I have ever come across. It's also obvious that they bear extreme hatred in their hearts.

You clearly lack understanding of our country and base your perspective from the glasses that Pakistanis show you.

Please have your own perspective and judge someone.

Turkey is not even remotely of dislike to us. In fact, I have just been to Turkey this summer and was very appreciative of your country's modern and open thinking; a rarity in the Middle East.

Our perspective with Iran is to get them to relax and open up. Technically even you don't like Westerners, But does that mean you close off your country to them politically? No.

Even Pakistanis who despise everything western, are still the largest involved party into US's WOT. And despite that they want to live in western countries and enjoy the benefits.

That is what we feel that Iran has to understand; when a country is so powerful as to change and influence governments around the world, you don't go head on with them for nothing. That is foolishness and not courage. Today China is at crossroads with US as well; but how smartly the Chinese used Western businesses to get to the position they are today.

That is smartness.

Iranians are intelligent people and they have much potential. Unfortunately, their government policies prove as an obstacle and the common man suffers. Some time ago, a few of our hosts were as usual, trying to tarnish our image in the muslim world (a feat that they repeatedly fail at) on this forum. I had raised this topic once again there that in Iran, say for example their civil aviation is suffering so badly due to Western sanctions. Are they making their own wide bodies? no. Are they able to export whatever they make globally to compete enough with west directly? No.

Then who is suffering? The commoners who die in air crashes due to poor maintenance. What have these people done? Just for the ego of one supreme leader, why do they have to die?

It is respectable to stand up for oneself just like how Turkish government does, but taking an extreme step is needless and only harms the country.

Do Not expect anything different from Indians.

Well as usual you make a pathetic attempt to target us... something which you have been failing at for the last 63 years and continuing.

Keep the discussion civil once, will you?
