Iran wants China in Chabahar development

Oh my God. The insanity know no boundaries  You guys have got everything invested in Gwadar, and Chinese investments in Chahabar is the last thing u want... Cant control my laughs seeing u guys freaking out.
The main intention of Chabahar is to have India access to CA countries and Afghanistan. If the Chinese wants to do it for us, bypassing Gwadar, they are mightily welcome :D

The mullahs will kick Indians out if India continue to kill Muslims for eating beef..

.
Gwadar - Chahbahar twin will screw India :D

China will now have access to Chahbahar and Gwadar.

India thought they have sole access Chahbahar. Iran now wants China in project. Maybe even get access to Chinese naval ships in the future.

After getting rejected for a UNSC seat by China, this is another embarrassing slap to India.

China needs to wait until pro-China governments come in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and then get naval ports in those countries too.

Iran-Pakistan-Sri Lanka-Bangladesh-Myanmar port access to Chinese naval ships will be a nightmare to Indian hegemonic ambitions in South Asia.

The world need to stop Indian imperialist ambition. India is at least 100 years too late for that kind of games.

Ironically, u come on a pakistani site, ironically u bad mouth pakistanis, more ironically ,u go on to make an absurd statement as if you have crafted our foreign policy......like pakistan's vision to harm india and the rest of the gibberish u uttered.....it only shows ur paranoia levels , not ours. So why india has been raising concerns over cpec passing thru Pak kashmir, if india is so angel like and has no issues with Pakistan's development and growth?
If you have so much issues with Pakistanis mindsets then what are u doing here? We pakistanis arent visiting any indian sites .....unlike u guys who are the highest number of subsribers here and needless to say nuisance as well. Now who is paranoid abt whom?

First of all this is not a Pakistani forum. That has been made clear to us all many many times in the past. I have been on this forum for 6 years now and know that very well. It is an international forum with Pakistan as the core subject and it welcomes people from all nationalities including Indians. If you have a problem with Indians joining this site take it up with @WebMaster

Secondly, have you seen the Pakistani responses on this thread? Petty, obsessive and idiotic. What do you expect me to say after reading all these comments? Maybe you should ask your countrymen to be a little more realistic and then you would get a better response.

Iran’s tempting offer to China – Chabahar

The consultations by the Chinese special envoy Zhang Yi in Tehran this week all but signal that a visit by President Xi Jinping to Iran in the near future is on the cards. Zhang travelled to Tehran within a week of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s talks in Beijing. Clearly, the choice of Zhang as special envoy suggests that Xi’s visit to Iran aims at imparting a major boost to the economic cooperation between the two countries.

Zhang heads a special commission under the State Council, State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), which consolidates state-owned enterprises and affiliates the industrial associations, including the country’s biggest industrial giants. The SASAC is one of the most important decision makers in the management of state-owned enterprises in China.

According to Iranian media reports, Zhang said in Tehran on Monday that his visit was a “telltale sign” of Beijing’s keenness to further develop the economic and trade relations with Iran. He cited a three-point agenda for his mission – development of trade ties, review of bilateral cooperation and exchange of views on future prospects. Zhang was accompanied by a delegation of managing directors of 18 major Chinese state-owned companies.

From the Indian viewpoint, it is of utmost interest that during Zhang’s discussions in Tehran, the Iranian side has offered the development of Chabahar port and the port’s rail connectivity with Central Asia “as a fertile ground for investment” by China. Evidently, Tehran is keenly seeking foreign investment from multiple sources for the infrastructure development in the country’s relatively backward southeastern region. The Iranian strategy will be to exploit the country’s unique geographical location to develop itself as a regional transportation hub. Apart from commercial and business spin off, Iran will see the strategic advantages of regional integration.

Conceivably, China would be interested in Chabahar Port as part of its ‘Road and Belt’ initiatives, which could connect Xinjiang with the Gulf region and the world market. There is a framework agreement dating back to 2002, which commits Iran, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China to link their railroads as a 2260 kilometer-long Silk Road corridor connecting Kashgar in Xinjiang with the Iranian rail grid via Herat in Afghanistan.

China is not putting all its eggs in one basket – China-Pakistan Economic Corridor – but is diversifying the access routes to the Gulf and world market. In sheer speed of decision-making and execution of projects, Chinese state-owned companies could be light years ahead of India. They also would have the wherewithal to put really big money on the table. (According to reports, China has earmarked $52 billion by way of investment in the Silk Road projects in Iran.)

But having said that, India also enjoys some factors of advantage. One, Iran is genuinely interested in ‘locking in’ India in a regional partnership of mutual benefit. The fast-growing Indian market attracts Iran, since it is next-door and easily accessible.

Two, India has a dynamic private sector. It is important to take note that President Hassan Rouhani flagged to Prime Minister Modi at their meeting in Ufa in July that Iran is interested in engaging the Indian private sector. The point is, Tehran bazaar has been traditionally very influential and enjoys much proximity with the country’s political elites (and the religious establishment) — and, it largely feels at home with the business practices of the Indian companies.

Iran knows if India is doing the project, it will take 108 years to complete (famous Indian inefficiency, eg. 2010 Commonwealth games farce)

Iran also sees that Narendra 'Muslim murderer' Modi is a Hindu extremist that has been butchering innocent Muslims in Gujarat and now all across India.

Iran finds this ethnic cleansing appalling as do the rest of the international community.

When China joins the Chabahar project, Iran will start giving China more responsibilities as it sees China's rapid construction ability compared to that other inefficient country.

The problem with threads like this is that most people took it personally, and from a political aspect. But when it comes to business, even China and India themselves are huge partners. That's how it works.

Whatever country invests in Iran or Chabahar, they will make profits respective to to amount of their investment, be it India or China. We offer the opportunities, countries that are interested take it. I don't see why China and India can't both invest in the area, they would be helping each other actually, since the area would develop much faster.

Well said bro, I agree with you that everyone can work together for mutual benefits, business is business.

The question is about the massive disparity in capabilities between China and India (check above posts #28, #32).
  • On port design, construction & equipment, ZPMC from Shanghai is a natural top choice.
  • On ports & logistics, other than numerous potential partners from China Mainland (China Merchants, COSCO, CHEC, ...), Iran may talk to other global powerhouses from Hong Kong (Hutchison Whampoa), Taiwan (Evergreen), Singapore (PSA Int'l), Netherlands (APM), UAE (DP World), Hanjin (South Korea) or Japan (JICA).
  • For value-adding investment & ecosystem (industries, energy plants, infrastructure & defence along the port value chain) building, AIIB and SWF from China are excellent co-investors.
But India? Note there are only some small local operators, no port tech, no port-industrial capacity, even their Mumbai is just a small port. What can they offer compared to the big guys in this global business?

How will a US sanction affect an Iranian Port and for countries like India /China which will do business with Central Asian states through it?

Is Iranian Port region more volatile than Gwadar region?

Exactly...Gawader is out of region deemed at risk of oil market conflicts..

India is a China wannabe. That's all it ever will be.

I think iran remembers how in 2009 india had backed out of IPI pipeline and also cut down on oil imports from Iran in 2011. Iran isnt really a pakistan friendly state, thats a fact , and since shah regime got replaced iran has only harbored hostility against us, very unfortunately......and she defo has better ties with india compared to us..... but then iran also knows india isnt an all weather friend...so working with a non muslim ,neutral and powerful state like China will always be iran's priority. Afterall what India's achievements are in terms of port and infra development?
