Iran to launch first professional telecom satellite: Official

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of Iran's Space Agency Hamid Fazeli announced that the country is planning to put a fully home-made telecommunication satellite, called Qaem, into orbit in the next five years.

"Due to the emphasis laid by President (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad), we planned a short-term program which enables us to put a fully Iranian telecommunication satellite into orbit in five years time," Fazeli told the Arabic-language al-Alam TV network Sunday night.

"We have been pursuing an extensive program for designing, manufacturing and launching a telecommunication satellite dubbed as Qaem since few years ago," he added.

Fazeli noted that Qaem which weighs one ton can carry 12 telecommunication transponders in different bands.

Last month, Chancellor of Iran's Amirkabir University Alireza Rahayee announced that Tehran is preparing to put a new home-made satellite, called Nahid (Venus), into orbit in the next four months.

"Building of the operational prototype of Satellite Nahid is predicted to accomplish in late spring and therefore, we should wait for sending Nahid to the space in early summer," Rahayee told FNA.

He said that Nahid is among those satellites which need more modern launchers, and Simorgh (Phonix) satellite launch platform is now being prepared to this end.

Rahayee said Nahid is the only home-made satellite with a sun-like surface and it is due to take images and send them to the Earth.

He added that Nahid will be sent to the space on the back of Safir B carrier.

Fazeli announced last week that the country will send 6 new home-made satellites, mostly made by Iranian universities, to the space in the next Iranian year (starting on March 21).

"Based on the foreseen timeline, Fajr, Sharif Sat, Tolou, Zafar, and A-Test will be sent to the space by the end of the next year," Fazeli told reporters in Tehran.

He said that Mesbah is also among the satellites which will be sent to orbit next year.

Last month, Iran unveiled a prototype model of Nahid telecommunications satellite.

The prototype model was unveiled during a ceremony attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Fazeli at an exhibition of Iran's latest space achievements and technologies here in the capital.

In November, Rahayee had announced that researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology had accomplished part of the studies on Satellite Nahid, and said it would be launched into the space with the backing of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA).

Rahayee noted that the industrial phases of the project had accomplished and researchers were now working on the launch phase.

Is Cisco and Juniper available in Iran ?

What about Siemens & Ericcson ?

All of you are using the internet, which eqipment provider are most common, and which ones are you using ?

Cisco pulled out of home network system and now centered itself around software and engineering .and juniper is a brand that in Iran peoples who can't afford quality product go after it .

the most common here are D-Link , TP-Link , Asus and syslink (home network branch of Cisco which they sold it out several week ago)
my Home Network solution is a combination of Intel , Ubiquity , US Robotic and D-Link

and more importantly , it's thread hijacking try to stay on topic .

How is it essential to mars mission?

well , we have to erase scums from earth before try to go to Mars ...

anyway , I doubt human may go and live in other planets before Armageddon and final battles ... after that , the winner will gain the knowledge to go and live in other planets ...

Congratulations my Iranian friends... it will be an achievement of the highest order once the satellite is inserted into geostationary orbit. :enjoy:

Btw, which cryogenic engine will be used for exoatmospheric boost? What's the name of the carrier rocket, any specs available to public, or is it a very "hush hush" thingi?

תחכה ונראה :coffee:
