Iran to deploy 'bomber drone' by next year

TEHRAN: Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards have said that by March next year it will deploy a domestically manufactured drone capable of carrying out air strikes.

"The super advanced bomber drone, manufactured by the Revolutionary Guards, will be operational in the second half of this year," Guards Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said referring to the Iranian year ending on March 20, 2011.

He did not give details on the aircraft.

Iran's drone technology has caused concern in the United States, with Defence Secretary Robert Gates recently warning they could pose "difficulty" for the military in Afghanistan.

In February, Iran opened two production lines for the manufacture of the drones, saying the unmanned aircraft would be capable of carrying out "assaults with high precision."

I would have appreciated this news had it been the Iran of Shah's era as a modern society of that time could have achieved such a feat with their own intellect as well as foreign cooperation. But with clerics claiming women promiscuity as the reason behind earthquakes ruling Tehran, I can imagine what this bomber drone can possibly do.

Humour apart, dear Iranian government has a very stylish set of words to describe their inventions:- super-stealth fighter, Bomber drone...... The latter name makes it sound as though the Extreme Deep Invader from the movie "Stealth". If only Iran was ruled by a more liberal and secular democratically elected government, perhaps Iranians could have achieved their dream of a strong military with international cooperation and support.
