We are not so powerful yet, unfortunately. The West can (and does) still do a lot to hurt us.

In fact we are paying above market price for Iranian oil.

We are not abusing Iran's situation by asking for lower oil prices, in fact we are paying a premium. We are paying an extra premium because as I said before, we are betting on Iran to come out ahead.

Abuse Iran's situation, are you kidding me?

We are the ones who are standing up for Iran (and pissing off our Western customers for this), and we are the number 1 buyers of Iranian oil.

When the whole world was threatening us not to do so, we STILL vetoed the Syrian resolution along with Russia.

The Westerners are our largest export market, we are giving up a lot to stand on the side of Iran.

nope .... you only do it for your own benefit ... we are ( at least I am ) not so simple to believe it ... you already loss Libya's oil and market and you don't want to so lose all of your independent oil exporters .... if all major oil exporter fall to western hand , then western can put an strong pressure to China with using oil as weapon .... can you deny it !?

But instead we pay a premium to Iran and risk our own economy, and risk our diplomatic relations with our other trade partners by vetoing things that have nothing to do with us, like Syria!

We are doing it for our own interests yes, we believe that Iran will become the most powerful country in the Middle East one day and it will be a strategic victory for us. Nobody pays above market rate and knowing China, why would they do that? You are in business and you pay what is the worth of the product. Nobody does charity in the business especially when it comes to Oil purchases.

I wish Iran is able to sort out the mess they are in and throw out the current madness of destroying one or the other. My friends, try to make peace with others and I am sure Iran will be one of the most progressive nation of the world. I can bet on it anytime.

Also about the Syria, I don't believe China is doing 'anything' for Iran's interests,neither Iran is doing anything for China's interests.Only personal interests matter,and sometimes,for 2 countries, these interests come in one line.China's Syrian policy has nothing to do with us,the same way our policy toward U.S has nothing to do with China.

I agree completely.

Domestic companies should always be given priority. And if foreign companies are not performing to expectations, they should be fired, regardless of which country they come from.

So I fully agree with Iran's reasons to cancel the Chinese contract.

I am just arguing with twilight, who seems to have bought the Western line that China is abusing Iran. When the facts show the complete opposite of this.

Most are vehemently against Wilayat e Faqeeh system and feel that Mullahs have ruined Iran (Many consider Shah to be a great leader and amusingly think Zoroastrianism is the evolution of Irani culture and thus more preferable). The latest sanctions on Iran have hit them hard and currency has devalued about 50% (most students are now living together in groups because of that).

I hope Iran is able to go through these tough times but I never thought that internal resentment would reach these levels. What is your opinion on that?
