On one hand, Iran wants sanctions relief. But on the other hand, they want to grow their nuclear weapons program and ballistic missiles program.
I believe the world should offer Iran no sanctions relief of any kind until they let go of their weapons programs. That includes nuclear, ballistic, and conventional weaponry.
I believe this because Iran has proven itself a sponsor of terror groups. And even if you'd factor in a Shia resistance against Sunni "oppression" or "intimidation", i believe it's about time that the Shia factions acknowledge that they're severely in the minority.
.
Shia and Sunni Islam are the two major denominations of Islam. They chose sides following the death of the Islamic prophet Muhammad in AD 632. A dispute over succession to Islamic prophet Muhammad as a caliph of the Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the Battle of Jamal and Battle of Siffin. After the death of Prophet Muhammed, Muslims had a disagreement. Sunnis believed that Muhammed's successor should be Abu Bakr and Omar, and the Shias believed that his successor should be Ali. The dispute intensified greatly after the Battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn Ali and his household were killed by the ruling Umayyad Caliph Yazid I, and the outcry for revenge divided the early Islamic community, which is known today as Islamic schism to differ from Christian schism that happened later.[1]
The present demographic breakdown between the two denominations is difficult to assess and varies by source, but a good approximation is that 85% of the world's Muslims are Sunni and 15% are Shia Muslims, with most Shias belonging to the Twelver tradition and the rest divided between many other groups.[2] Sunnis are a majority in most Muslim communities: in Southeast Asia, China, South Asia, Africa, and a part of the Arab world. Shia make up the majority of the citizen population in Iraq, Bahrain, Iran, and Azerbaijan, as well as being a politically significant minority in Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Kuwait.[13]
let me be clear : i do not support a full unconditional surrender by Shias towards Sunnis.
but at the same time, trying to outgun the Sunnis does not seem a realistic option for the Shias.
They'll simply not allow you to grow a nuclear attack force. They'd get the West to wage full scale war on Iran to prevent that.
And in order to prevent much economic and real world suffering in Iran, i hereby beg the Iranians to play the underdog in a stylish way. To let go of their weapon ambitions. To settle their differences with Sunnis through economic and diplomatic and tourism means. IT CAN BE DONE, dear Iranians.
and such will also be my advice to my mailinglist. i'll include a copy of the email forward of this post soon.

Pompeo says Iran ‘desperately’ keen to return to talks for sanctions relief
Fri, 2020-12-04 19:18 WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday said Iran was 'desperately' signaling its willingness to return to the negotiating table to get sanctions relief, although he did not elaborate how Washington would respond. Speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue, Pompeo did not provide proof as to how Tehran was more keen for talks. Tensions between Washington and Tehran have risen since 2018, when Trump abandoned Obama's 2015 nuclear deal, and restored economic sanctions to pressure Tehran to negotiate stricter curbs on its nuclear program, ballistic missile development and support for regional proxy forces. |

Iran plans to install more advanced atomic centrifuges underground: IAEA
Fri, 2020-12-04 16:52 VIENNA: Iran has told the UN nuclear watchdog it plans to install three more cascades, or clusters, of advanced IR-2m centrifuges at its underground uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, the agency told member states on Friday in a report obtained by Reuters. “Iran informed the Agency that the operator of the Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) at Natanz ‘intends to start installation of three cascades of IR-2m centrifuge machines’ at FEP,” the agency wrote, adding that the three cascades were in addition to one of IR-2m machines already used for enrichment there. Iran’s nuclear deal with major powers says Tehran can only use first-generation IR-1 centrifuges, which are less efficient, at the underground plant and that those are the only machines Iran can accumulate enriched uranium with. |
