TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman strongly condemned a suicide bombing attack in the Afghan capital of Kabul that has claimed the lives of 21 people.

Up to 21 people were killed in an attack on a restaurant popular with foreigners in the Afghan capital on Friday, after a suicide bomber blew himself up near the entrance and gunmen burst in to spray diners with bullets.

The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) representative in Afghanistan and four United Nations staff were also among the dead, who included 13 foreign nationals.

Later on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham condemned the terrorist attack, and noted that violent and terrorist measures in Afghanistan aim to "disrupt stability and security" in that country.

She also expressed confidence that the Afghan government and nation will be able to ride out the sensitive conditions by remaining vigilant and upholding unity.

The Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the Friday attack on a Lebanese restaurant in Kabul.
