Iran says offers India bigger role in strategic port | Reuters

Many of our Pakistani friends were jumping for joy thinking that Iran will now ask India to pack its bags and leave after they signed the nuclear deal! Now this news means more egg on their faces!! The way things are going, they'll need to start importing eggs from India!!

Ok, seriously, note the words, 'strategic port' in the report. That could even translate to establishing an Indian naval base there!
Thats deeply insulting man

that was wrong notion and there was no need to worry it seems.
good luck

we have a history just like you have with saudis

this cant be helped unfortunately. all the best wishes a strong and happy Iran means good news for us too.
may the haters burn and get eaten in their own creations

International relations are not black and white. During cold war era India had defence ties with USSR but US was the largest economic partner. I dont see any difficulty in balancing Iran and Israel as India's foreign policy is based on principles and pragmatism and goes without saying national interest.

Absolutely .Nations creates foreign policy for their own interest.Be it India or Iran.

The useful idiots of Pakistan establishment made huge error in supporting Talibans and thus alienated Iran, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Now Pakistan has to suffer the consequences of their actions. At least Pakistan did not repeat the mistake of sending their troops to Yemen which would have created even bad situation for Pakistan in Iran. In the long run Pakistan-Iran interests are closer to each other than Iran-India interests.

Shia sunni divide is more pronounced that what people imagine..."strategic port" has its own connotation. I am with @OrionHunter on this.

Strategic but hardly in military sense. We need to know that Iran has an independent foreign policy and China is the largest trading partner with Iran. But I expect the balance of trade shifts to opposite direction of the globe and then the equation changes. Hence its too early to speculate that.

If we have guts this 'is' the most interesting game there.

Dont take that seriously bro.He is just expressing his opinion.
I think India is also looking for another pipeline from Central Asia to Iran.If we move on that direction we can ssurely say that Chabhar will become a life line to entire South Asia.

There is no doubt that a naval base will be boon for us. But for that to happen, deep mistrust between Iran and Pakistan is a pre requisite. I therefore would prefer a strategic partnership with regular port calls by IN ships to Iranian ports. Lets see what future has in stores for us..
WTF are you guys talking about ?

guys look , we Iranians are very patriotic , thats why 6 of the biggest nations in the world licked us for 12 years to get this deal done .

we love india and we appreciate our relations , but even the talk of a foreign base in my homeland makes me go nuts . this is very insulting , please refrain from even talking about it again .

on topic : very good news for the whole region . kudos

Its not about individual diplomats but about our diplomatic institutions. We dont have any better feelings for our politicians but we do appreciate the way our country has been able to build democratic institutions.

Well consider the facts about our diplomatic institutions then right from our independence to pre Narendra Modi period with the benefit of Hindsight:

Failures

Whole NAM
UN resolution on Kashmir
Support towards induction of PRC in UNSC
Engagement with China for totality of our diplomatic relationship
Engagement with EU, Oceania, US and UK prior to 2001
Tashkent, Lahore & Agra Agreement
Sanctions against Pakistan for supporting terrorism
India's absence in UNSC and NSG
Italy Marines Incident
Lakhvi & JUD
Lalit Modi, Devyani khobragade and Ravi Thapar

Successes

Shimla Agreement
Engagement with ME, Israel and Iran to keep them relatively neutral
Engagement with Russia for totality of our diplomatic relationship
Managing the sanctions after Nuclear test

Iran Pakistan relations will be in the same league as say Uzbekistan Tajikistan relations. .While India is in a different league.

Buddy I have just mentioned that in my previous posts. Please don't mistake my Indian friends here. They have no bad intention its just I hope u understand where they are coming from.

You are free to persue your goal. India is with you:)

I get what you say..and Iran is a very pragmatic country..though I don't understand what's insulting here..Pakistan has leased out its port to china and it will be and in the future it e ill be a Chinese naval base under he guise of a cargo port..you mean it's a demeaning act.

Not at all a difficult task for our diplomats. Israel provided support to India in 3 wars against Pakistan and yet our policy favours homeland for palestine. Iran provided the strategic depth and support to Pakistan in 1965 and 1971 and yet we have better relations with them. There is a saying in India that a wise enemy is better than a foolish friend. We know that we cant have 100% agreement in best of our relationships. What is required is space and respect for each other and thats what is reflected in our diplomatic approach.

But there is some difference between ours relation with Iran and Israel.
For Israel a relation with India is a multiplier ,a bonus ,in a way they needs us more than the vice versa.

But with Iran we have cenruries of trade and cultural relation.Iran has her own power ful cultural bases in middle east.
