By Temkin Jafarov – Trend:

Iran is preparing to launch "Sharif" satellite into space by February 11, 2015.

Iran's Vice President for executive affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari told Fars News Agency on Nov.14 that Iran's Defense Ministry has announced readiness for launching the satellite.

Iranian experts have finished the construction of the indigenous satellite in June 2013 and it was announced that "Sharif" would be launched into space in three months.

Shariatmadri said everything is ready for launching the satellite, simultaneously with the marking of Iran's Islamic Revolution day. Iran's Islamic Revolution happened in 1979.

More than 100 Iranian students, scholars and academics have been involved in designing and constructing the indigenous satellite, which weighs less than 50 kilograms, the Chancellor of Sharif University of Technology Reza Roosta-Azad told Press TV in June 2012.

On January 28, 2013 the Islamic Republic of Iran sent a monkey into space aboard an indigenous bio-capsule, code-named Pishgam (Pioneer), as a prelude to sending humans on space missions.

Iran launched its first indigenous satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009. The country also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into the space in February 2010, using the indigenous Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

In June 2011, Iran put the 15.3-kilogram Rasad (Observation) orbiter in space. Rasad's mission was to take images of the Earth and transmit them along with telemetry information to ground stations.

Iran also launched Navid-e Elm-o Sanat (Harbinger of Science and Industry), another indigenous satellite, into the orbit on February 3, 2012.

Finally, they are going to launch Sharif sat. I heard it has an indigenous camera with resolution of less than 5 meters. It's not considered a good resolution by world's standards, but it's a step in the right direction, meaning they can also reach less than 1 meter resolution. Also, the 5 meter one is news from 2 years ago, perhaps they have even come up with a better camera with higher resolution.
