Pakistan offers new proposals on construction of IP gas pipeline - Tehran Times

100% civilian project Iran-Pakistan gas line project talks commence for secondary proposal and extra time needed by Pakistan to complete the gas line

The Pakistani government has presented a new proposal to the Iranian Oil Ministry for the settlement of a dispute over the implementation of Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for international affairs and trading Ali Majedi said.
Majedi said the proposal was recently submitted to Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, the ministry's website reported.
“In their proposals, the Pakistanis have offered different solutions for accelerating the construction of IP pipeline and have demanded action on the issue. The details of the proposal are being studied,” said Majedi.
He did not reveal details of the Pakistani proposal, but rejected reports of Pakistan demanding $2bln in aid from Iran to build its own section of the pipeline.
Pakistan desperately needs to import natural gas from Iran to resolve its loadshedding challenge. Iran has already built its 900-kilometer share of the pipeline on its own soil and is waiting for the 700-kilometer Pakistani side of the pipeline to be built.
Iran and Pakistan signed an agreement over the construction of a gas pipeline in 1995. Later, Iran made a proposal to extend the pipeline from Pakistan into India. In February 1999, an accord between Iran and India was signed.
But due to the U.S. pressure, India withdrew from the project in 2009.

WHAT security 'concerns' to be precise?
1. lack of trust between two..
2. Terrorist can anytime blow up pipeline.
3. Pakistan failed to give guarantee of security of pipeline going india.
4. Cost.

US pressure was never the concern ..had it been..we would have not consider the undersea pipeline between Iran and India.

not because of US Pressure but due to security concerns in Pakistan.....

I would trust and believe Ambassador M. K. Bhadrakumar over you any day. It was US pressure pure and simple, and also Indian attempts to fuel and support terrorism in Pakistan. A commitment to this project would send a message to their assets that they did not want to send.

There is no concern

The options are

  • If Iran can help finance , we can build it in 2015 , if we build it we can do it by 2015
  • We just asked some time to gather some finances
Its a civilian project does not falls under any sanctions

Why can't Pakistan pay for the pipeline themselves? Why do they always have to beggar.

Pay the $2 billion you cheap *********.

House of Saud would be unhappy with King Nawaz Al-Sharif, if this pipeline materialized, despite the fact that without this gas, our industries face a meltdown.

Pakistan is hoping to leverage Chinese investments in Gwadar so that we do not have to spend money building a pipeline ourselves. I am pointing at the plan to build a large LNG terminal at Gwadar and pipeline from there to consumption centers to East and then North.

Pricing is a serious issue and Paksitan does wish for the price to be revised downwards.

KSA concerns would not matter in a couple of years. KSA will just have to accept a changed scenario. It is strategically important to keep KSA's influence to certain sectors only. We do not want an Egypt-like situation.

Best of luck for successful conclusion of dialogue.

House of al Saud should not decide for Pakistan.

KSA can decide nothing for Pakistan. We are not Arabs, neither do we look forward to any interference in our political and strategic development from KSA. Same goes for Iran as well.

Arabs and Persians are both our brothers. I just wish they would step back from trying to feed sectarianism inside Pakistan.

Pakistan's growth and development will have a direct positive effect on India. Not only will there be fewer un-employed people available to extremists for recruitment, there would also be mutually beneficial projects to be worked upon. In time both the countries can decide to soften our bloody borders.

That would be the accomplishment of one of the ORIGINAL aims of Pakistan as a country.

I wished they be Arab, but they are only a Family that are ruling Arabia.

This is the right time to work to gather but many terror groups and Pakistan army will not allow that to be happened.

Pakistan must maintain its independence in all of its development Plans and follow what is in the National Interest of Pakistan. No Foreign Country should be given the right or the power to derail our development plans.

You are correct but it seems that now a days Pakistan is very jubilant over the Chinese Investment. You almost handed over Gwadar to China.
