Tehran, Jan 12, IRNA – Iran’s Army spokesman said on Friday that a special operational team from Navy Force comprising commandos have been deployed in China Sea to start relief and rescue operations to save crew members of a burning Iranian oil tanker.
Brigadier General Shahin Taqikhani told IRNA on Friday night that head of Army’s Bureau for Foreign Relations in a meeting with the Chinese and Japanese military attaches declared the concern of the families of the Iranian seamen feared to have been trapped inside the burning oil tanker. .
Both military attaches announced that they would convey the issue to their countries’ commanders and officials at the earliest, he said.
Taqikhani further noted that the Navy Force’s team is waiting to receive flight facilities from the Chinese Army to step onto the burning oil tanker.
If the Chinese army provides them with helicopters, they can start operations to save the crew on board in a short time, he said.
As soon as the army receives information on the incident, it is ready to undertake rescue and relief operations, he said.
The oil tanker collided with a Chinese vessel off east coast of China on January 6 and all those on board went missing. It was carrying condensates to South Korea.
Operations to extinguish fire and determine the fate of the missing crew members are still underway.
