Iran Pakistan gas pipeline is against the interests of Saudi Arabia. As Saudi Arabia is the biggest charity donor to Pakistan, the interests of Saudi Arabia are more dear to Pakistani politicians and the army then the long term interests of their own country. The rulers of Pakistan (both civilian and military) are only interested in some quick cash which the "friendly" countries like Saudi Arabia occasionally provide. Around a year ago Pakistani politicians from opposition parties were asking the government to tell the people of Pakistan why Saudi Arabia has transferred $ 1.5 billion to Islamabad as no country does this favour without any reason. Here is the reason why the money was transferred.
Saudi grant kills Iran-Pakistan pipeline
I have no issue if Pakistan can milk some money out of Saudi Arabia. The issue is whether that money is enough to offset the suffering caused by energy shortages. And this is an issue only a Pakistani can comment on, so I leave it at that.
It will surely be built especially when Nawaz Sharif is defeated in elections. The petrol crisis has severely damaged his reputation and exposed him as incompetent leader.
I am not sure about that. This pipeline has been on designing boards for almost five decades now, through the tenure of many governments. It has more to do with how Pakistan sees its long term interests than being about a single person or government.
