TEHRAN - Islamabad should expedite gas pipeline project with Iran or it should wait for impending financial punishments, an Iranian source said.
“If Pakistan doesn’t revise its behaviour on construction of the peace pipeline, it will be fined based on the bilateral agreement (with Iran),” an informed source, who asked to remain unnamed, told FNA on Saturday. He further complained about the slow trend of the pipeline construction, lamenting that the project had not had tangible progress in the last four months.
“In the same respect, we have decided to issue an ultimatum to Pakistani energy officials warning that if they don’t revise the slow trend of the pipeline construction, we will put into effect the paragraph in the agreement which pertains to financial penalties,” the informed source said.
Asked about the reason for Pakistan’s delay in constructing the pipeline, the source said that Islamabad claims to be waiting for the results of Iran’s June 14 presidential election, but the delay is a result of the US pressures.

now today pro Saudi government is in Pakistan
i don't think that mian sab will start this project

It would be a double whammy - Iranian imposed fine as well as No supply of gas. I hope the 15 billion given from SA compensates the loss.

BTW, is this ultimatum serious? @Cheetah786.

Pro-Saudi government will not continue with the pipeline.

How can an elected government close its eyes on the most basic interests of the country only because it's pro-Saudi? It doesn't even make sense.Pakistan needs energy, Iran is the closest source for it.We are now having biggest gas reserves in the world, even larger than Russia. I hope they change their mind, it's a win-win deal.

I wish and I hope Pakistan complete this project, but in case Pakistan doesnt then how is Iran going to implement those penalties

I was not going to respond in this thread. But Era you are a mod, so here is some info for you.

Gas pipeline project is an international project, so it has to have international rules and guarantees in place.

Considering that Iran is under international sanctions,

Pakistani government cannot work on it legally speaking.

On top the legal hurdles, we have financial issues.

However even if we have all the funds to pay for it, our banks cannot transfer that kind of money in and out of Iran.

These are the realities.

But some on this thread continue spreading constipated conspiracy theories against Nawaz, or Saudi, or the Martian people.

Iran too should realize that it must come out of sanctions first if it wants to establish long term international agreements.

May be Roohani win may result in it.

But I have not much hope.
