"He likened Iran’s relations with India to Pakistan’s ties with Saudi Arabia. “Our relations with India, just like Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia, are not against Pakistan as we understand Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia are not against Iran,” the crafty and skilful diplomat said trying to remind about his country’s concerns."
Zareef is using wrong analogy here. India has got more intense economic, trade and energy links with Saudi Arabia then with Iran. There is a huge Indian diaspora working in Saudi Arabia, a big source of remittance. Pakistan never once raised the issue about Saudi-Indian ties. But the problem with Iran-India ties is their effects on security of Pakistan and its citizens. Kulbashan Yadav is a living example of that concern.
Rather relying on rhetoric and words, Iranian side needs to demonstrate and come to a mutually agreed mechanism where Pakistan can be satisfied that Indian presence in Iran will not cause any security and terrorism issue to Pakistan. Sharing data of Indians in Iran with Pakistan and strict vigil on them would be a good start for confidence building measures. There is already genuine concern within Pakistan about Iranian establishment and people are refusing to believe that Iranian were not aware of Kulbashan and his network activities. This is also compounded by other factors like Uzair Baluch and his Iranian nationality. Another KY will be a complete disaster to Pak-Iran relations and its in Iran own interests to understand the ramifications.
