is it safe to assume they are worried pakistan will become a base for israeli/us destabilisation?

Very much so. Especially since some of the development projects, with US personnel, will be taking place in Balochistan.

If this American threat can bring about a rapproachment between JI and Iran, and improve Shia/Sunni dialog within Pakistan, then that would be a fantastic development. Sure, it would be a marriage of convenience, but maybe we can get some lasting mileage out of it.

The troubling thing is that the more Iran gets worried about Pakistan, the closer they get to India. This is a disaster for us because, in the long run, we need Iran solidly on our side.
