The Islamic Republic of Iran has topped the list of oil exporters to Turkey in the first quarter of 2011, a report has revealed.

According to a report released by Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), the country imported six million tons of oil during the period.

Iran was also the main country from where Turkey imported oil throughout the first quarter of 2011, Anatolia News Agency reported on Monday.

The report added that some 4.2 million tons of the overall six million tons of oil imports was crude, 1.4 million tons was diesel, 135,379 tons was fuel, 56,471 tons was jet fuel, 53,225 tons was 95 octane unleaded gasoline, and 2,082 tons was aviation fuel.

Iran's share in Turkey's oil imports amounted to 30 percent, whereas Iraq and Russia followed by 12 and 11 percent respectively.

The EMRA report comes as Iran and Turkey have in recent years considerably expanded their economy, trade and energy cooperation.
