Iran condemns US maneuver to blame china for Covid-19
Tehran, May 16 (Prensa Latina) Iran condemned on Saturday US maneuvers to blame China for the Covid-19 that, in reality, it claims, tries to hide the inability of Donald Trump's government to fight the pandemic.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi called the US intention to divert attention from Trump's incompetence a blame game.
'Washington's campaigns are aimed at confusing local and foreign public opinion about President Trump's clumsiness in saving lives and reopening the economy,' he said.
US officials are accusing China of mishandling the new coronavirus outbreak and even claiming without foundation that it was created in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
Tensions between Washington and Beijing have heightened in recent days by an exchange of reprimands over the handling of the pandemic.
The international scientific community claims that Covid-19, caused by the pathogen SARS-CoV-2, jumped species boundaries and passed from wildlife to humans, but it was a chance event without human manipulation.
Since last December when the new coronavirus was detected in Wuhan, the disease has plagued some 200 countries and territories around the world, infecting more than 4.6 million people and resulting in 308,000 deaths.
