Iran builds Middle East first hybrid electric bus

The Middle East's first hybrid electric bus was built jointly by Iran's Isfahan University of Technology and Tehran University, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Mohsen Esfahanian, the project's manager, said that the bus's power consumption is 30 per cent less than regular buses.

It also pollutes the air 50 percent less than the other buses, he added.

A hybrid electric bus combines a conventional internal combustion engine propulsion system with an electric propulsion system.

These types of buses normally use a Diesel-electric powertrain and are also known as hybrid Diesel-electric buses.

The introduction of hybrid electric vehicles and other green vehicles for purposes of public transport forms a part of sustainable transport schemes.

Funny, Iran/Turkey are beating Canada in industrial output in many sectors (car industry for example). Scientific progress of both countries is off the chart and certainly much much faster than Canada. In the coming decades both IRan and Turkey will be ahead of countries like Canada.

When Canada can produce a screw driver without the help of the US, then start talking smack k Canuck? I'm living here and without the bros down south we'd be living like Zambians. Everything here, from the toilets we sit on to the food is from the US. Even if smtg is made here, it's made by an American company. Even if the company is Canadian, it's a licensed product or...

You know where I'm ging with this. The great Canadian companies like Bombardier etc... would be nowhere without the US.

I think its just a 'university project' or a prototype at max. If & when it enters into commercial production, only that would make it 'something' to be lauded... Right now, its too early to comment on it...
