Iran blames U.S., Israel for computer worm

TEHRAN, Iran — A senior Iranian military official says experts have determined the United States and Israel were behind a mysterious computer worm known as Stuxnet that has harmed Iran’s nuclear program.

Gholam Reza Jalali says investigations by Iranian experts show that Stuxnet originated from the U.S. state of Texas and Israel.

Jalali heads a military unit called Passive Defense that primarily deals with sabotage. His comments were reported Saturday by Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Iran has acknowledged Stuxnet hit a limited number of centrifuges at its main uranium enrichment facility, the centerpiece of its nuclear program.

The U.S. and its allies accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.

The internet is distributed via the country's internet exchange, and then via backbone / ISPs etc etc etc, till they reach the local proxy ....

Now I have seen Persians boasting about how great Iran has been in scientific papers etc ....

and they couldn't tweak a Linux kernel to stop the virus ?

Supposedly not, however the virus was apparently very good at hiding its self on usb sticks. It only takes one careless opperator to down load a file "so i can work on it at home"

Supposedly...The virus was smart enough to recognize what kind of machine to look for based upon the computer it inhabit, meaning there were who-knows-how-many copies of it everywhere in the world lying dormant because the virus knows it is inhabiting the wrong PC. If there was a chance of it getting on the Internet and propagate itself, it would and many copies (not versions) did made it into the proverbial wild. All it takes is just one copy to get into the correct computer, by hook or by crook, that runs the correct machines to wreak the havoc it did.
