Islamabad, April 26, IRNA A senior Pakistani analyst here Wednesday said Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is the only solution to overcome looming energy crisis in Pakistan
Talking to IRNA, Orya Maqbool Jan welcomed the statement of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani asking for the implementation of agreements concluded between the Pakistani and Iranian officials.
Talking to the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Ali-Reza Haqiqian in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said that his top priority was to follow their expeditious implementation including gas pipeline and import of electricity.
Orya Maqbool Jan also said that Pakistan and Iran have decades' long relationship, they have been cooperating before and after Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) and now both countries are members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The analyst said that the relationship between Iran and Pakistan has always remained cordial. He was of the view that after the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US had tried to influence Pakistan over its relationship with Iran.
He added that Pakistan is standing on a turning point and they have to decide weather they want to have strong ties with the US or they want to have strong relationship with their neighbor Iran.
Orya Maqbool Jan stressed the need for implementing all agreements between Pakistan and Iran with sincerity.
The intellectual opined that Iran Pakistan gas pipeline project is very important to overcome the energy crisis in Pakistan. There is no other option left for Pakistan but to implement the project as early as possible, he noted.
Yes there is lot of scope to enhance trade ties between the two neighbors, he said to a question.
Orya Maqbool Jan was of the view that Pakistan can export its rice to Iran. Most of the things available in the area of Balcohistan are coming from Iran, he added.
The analyst advised to transform informal trade into formal trade by establishing border market.
Definitely, Iran and Pakistan are committed to eliminate terrorism but we have to define terrorism in our own terms, he said to a question.
We should not follow the definition of terrorism given by the Americans. I believe the whole Muslim world should redefine terrorism in their own terms, otherwise western states would eliminate Muslims from the whole world, opined the analyst.
