International Math Olympiad 2014 results are in! (India fails again)

In India and in Indian community no one even talk about this. I never see any institutes or anyone preparing for this.

Not necessary becoming mathematicians of cource。

How about financial wizards,nuclear scientists、particle physicists、missile designers、submarine builders,communications experts, among others???

Just in response to an Indian‘s “uneasiness” about these youngsters failing to be internationally recognized mathematicians。:azn:

The Chinese need to forgo the dreams that USA and white man will grant us access to their elite circles. Today, USA is in a low level alliance with India to contain China, that explains why Indians are given access elite sphere. Also high caste Indians and white man are both Aryans and Indians caste system is the most consummate form of white man racial discrimination. So white man and Indians have the same culture and they can assimilate to one another.

Despite acing far better than Indians academically, Chinese are not even given the level of access to the lowly programmer positions in USA. Go see in Microsoft and especially Qualcomm.

The only hope for oversea Chinese especially those in white man land is a strong China.

Our Indian friends always have excuses。

For anything。:enjoy:

We Indians are quite poor at math...In fact, we're quite poor at most subjects. Literacy to us is the ability to read and write, not the ability to contribute intellectually to the society. But this is not to say that some, in fact, very few among us are not as smart as your average school-goer. A tiny tiny fraction among us might have chanced upon a new fact or discovery here and there....all flukey and accidental of course. We Indians are just content with spending our lives in spartan comfort and bliss. Sports, Science and arts are not our forte. We're very different that way compared to our talented East Asian neighbours. Hope this made you happy.:)

Math was never my 'favorite' subject, despite my so and so performance. I always found it rather boring. Especially theoretical calculus...bah humbug!

Boy oh boy i loved History. If only it paid well. lol.

I think its rather unfair for people to make scathing remarks and generalizations on South Asians. I have had many a encounter with South Asians (Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi) in my line of work, and they would qualify as learned professionals. I would deign so, since 1/2 of my Ph.D cohort are South Asians. And most of them are H1 visa holders, like myself.

Also, the results of these exams, can't be applied for the general population because of the shear number of population samples.

My favorite subject was Chinese, followed by history until I discovered Math much later.

Maths horns my mind and I begin to look at problems including history one is a very much systematic approach, and I begin to question inferences by scholars from the liberal art school, using a more structured thinking.

Maths changes me a lot. Without Maths, a lot of my pleasure will be lost.

The title unfairly targeted India.
In a competition, there will always be first place and last place. A math competition shouldn't be used as an ideological weapon

So many good students on PDF, omg! We should discuss math together instead of trolling!

Math is the foundation of science.

A las, i wasn't blessed with a 'liberal' father. Mine was a physician who scolded me when I first told him I wanted to go into History. He said to me, "History cannot feed you. Medicine or Engineering!"

:sarcastic: ..... :hitwall:

I do not like it either, but we have to use it in many ways.

Indians outside India are no better mate. Don't tell me you haven't seen them fidgeting over some simple roadblock in their work! We Indians are famous for plagiarizing others' works, and also at finding 101 ways how not to do something before finding the simple way to do it. A rather obvious fact which everyone knew, or so I thought.

To be honest, my friend, i wouldn't know about that. Im in close partnership with an Indian national for my dissertation. Well, we conducted a juxtaposition of data. He's quite the wiz, i'd say. I'm not so strong on multivariate stats as he is, but my strengths in IBM SPSS /SAS is okay so we have a trade-off. My experiences with Indians, and Pakistanis at my university is very strong.

Nothing bad to say.

Wrong! A nation of 1.2 billion and we can't find 5 who are good at math? Or 11 who are good at football? Of course we are a useless race and nationality! :agree:

At 1.2 billion people; its statistically improbable to generalize the performance of 1-5 people onto such a LARGE population.
Anyone who would argue otherwise is just...a clod. No offense.
