International cruise ship arrives in Cox’s Bazar

LOL NVR doesn't give you the same benefit as OCI.

You can enter India with your OCI card without even having to show your foreign passport to the border control! Whereas your NVR is only valid till the time your passport is valid, one you passport expires so does your NVR. You can not stamp an NVR on your forehead
and enter Bangladesh, you enter on your foreign passport as a foreigner.

2.5 Million OCI holders by now.
LOL.
You can always get a new stamp, you won't have to undergo the whole process top to end,no biggie.
And how do you know a BD NVR don't provide the same as an OCI? Are you a Bangladeshi? Rules are according to the land. Heard that? :disagree:

. .
I never said that Bangladesh has no potential, for this imho Bangladesh should team up with the Indian tourism board. Market Bangladesh as an extension of the Indian experience, a package deal. Bangladesh as a stand alone destination is a non starter.

No foreigner would waste their money just to visit Bangladesh, that's a fact even Bangladeshis will accept. Let's face it Bangladesh is no Nepal or Bhutan. Its a very crowded place, with very little to see, and not to forget Islamic restrictions

Yes, you have correctly assessed the BD tourism sector. I agree that BD must tie up with Indian NE, Burma as well as Nepal and Bhutan. Roads and culverts should be built across the border that will attract this diverse region. An agreement like this should also include the maximum utilization of Dhaka Airport for disembarkation and also embarkation. Tourists can spread as per their own itinerary after landing. For now, I am happy to see a tour operator has successfully included our country for tourists from western countries. However, let us see what our Mullahs start talking!!!

The infrastructure is already there, maybe something along the lines of a SAARC tourist visa will encourage tourists to explore more. Co branding is also necessary, as I said, a tag line of Incredible India + Beautiful Bangladesh, something along those lines will go a long way in boosting the tourism numbers. India saw a huge increase in tourist numbers with the e visa and visa on arrival facilities, Bangladeshi government should do the same.

Majority of those 5 lakh "tourists" are Bangladeshis with foreign citizenship and Indians( Again Bangladeshis who have acquired Indian citizenship through legal and illegal means).

There are very few actual tourists who visit Bangladesh for tourism, the number is probably less than 10000 a year.

What touristy thing is there in bangladesh?

Nightclubs? Nope
Beaches? Yea right
Historical sites? Few and unimpressive
Shopping? They don't make anything
Nature? Again not much to see

It's probably one of the least touristy places out there.

but citizen of other country with Indian background.

We have OCI cards. Visa costs $100 for 6 months while OCI is $400 for lifetime entry.

So India consider anyone with Indian background an 'overseas citizen of India' even if they renounce Indian citizenship and acquire other's?Is there any time period for it?Is it applicable for the descendant?

Yes because it's not real citizenship it's similar to citizenship that you are free to enter India without visa and are free to buy and sell land.

Hmmm.. I guess going through the posts i can assume until there are major societal changes and govt policies, Bangladesh has a very long way to go before it can be considered a tourist holiday destination

Where from you got this idea that tourists go to other countries to drink alcohol and buy prostitutes? These things are available in their own and all countries. People visit a country for other kind of attractions.

Well, there is a thing called 's-e-x tourism'...

More or less a decade ago, this segment of tourism began to develop in Bangladesh, as well as Myanmar, as an extension to India and Thailand where it's a burgeoning business. In Myanmar, the business flourished but in Bangladesh, it was met with a crackdown... There was a high profile murder case in Dhaka some years back, convicting a French pedophile...

This is a very low end of tourism and mostly illegal... The tourists are mainly pedophiles or homosexuals who doesn't want to expose their sexual identity in their native places and travel to the developing countries to fulfill their sexual desires...
