Intense diplomatic lobbying on new auto policy

Japanese assembly plants have been minting money with their substandard car due to their monopoly in Pakistan. Pakistan should permit car manufacturer from Europe to build assembly plants with tax breaks and incentive. Japanese car manufacturers have nobody but themselves to blame for the low quality high priced cars and bad reputation.

Pakistan is a big consumer market for automobiles but it s hamstrung by policy which is not viable and only protects the mafia of 3 assemblers, assembling for the past 3 decades.

Pakistan needs an auto policy that focuses on manufacturing. For that, govt needs to lower tariff for a period of time on imported components that Pakistan cant produce. That period should be restriceted and frim committments be sought to bring technology to the country.

In the hindsight, I m suspicious of the capability of this govt. This PMLN govt and one before it, the PPP, systematically destroyed Pakistan Steel Mills. For any large scale manufacturing, Pakistan needs a viable steel manufacturing. Right now, its non existent. I can understand Pakistani PM is in steel manufacturing business big time. That could be a reason Steel Mills was cut off and let it be dead.
