Two Kerala-based Ayurvedic doctors joined the list of Indians who have received the UAE'S coveted Golden Visa, according to a report in Khaleej Times. Dr Shyam Vishwanathan Pillai and Dr Jasna Jamal were granted Golden Visas by the UAE's Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA).
While Dr Pillai was granted the Golden Visa on June 17, Dr Jasna Jamal was given the Golden Visa on June 24.
"My sincere gratitude to the rulers and policymakers of UAE for the kind support to Ayurveda and Ayurveda practitioners," Khaleej Times quoted Dr Pillai as saying.
"I truly appreciate their vision in integrating the Ayurveda for the wellbeing of UAE residents and at the same time keeping in place strong measures to ensure the quality delivery of Ayurveda practice," he added.
Dr Pillai, who is the CEO of Vaidyashala at the Burjeel Day Surgery Centre in Abu Dhabi, came to Dubai in 2001. He belongs to Kollam district in Kerala.
Ever since the UAE government implemented the Golden Visa system in 2019, many Indians have received its benefits. In May this year, actor Sanjay Dutt shared the news that he had received the UAE’s Golden Visa.
The Golden Visa allows foreigners to live, work and study in the UAE for a long period without the need of a national sponsor and with 100 per cent ownership of their businesses there. These visas are issued for five or 10 years and renewed automatically.
"After I completed my MD in Ayurveda, I received a platform in Kempinski Hotels, in 2001, to integrate Ayurveda therapies in their wellness and spas. However, I later realised that Ayurveda was not a recognised system of medicine in the UAE, though there was a great demand for it. Ayurveda got recognised as an (alternative) medicine treatment in UAE in 2002, under the department of Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the Ministry of Health," Pillai told Khaleej Times.
Dr Jasna Jamal, who is a resident of Al Mamzar in Dubai, hails from Thrissur in Kerala. "By the Grace of God, I have been honoured with Golden Visa. It is a great pleasure...I sincerely thank the UAE leaders for this wonderful opportunity," Khaleej Times quoted her as saying.
Dr Jasna has over 16 years of experience in Ayurveda and runs her own Ayurveda clinic in Al Mamzar. She is married to an architect and the couple moved to the UAE 12 years ago soon after their marriage.
