i know that you have become paranoid about Tamils that you dream of them even in your sleep, keeping it aside, india is not an imperial power, does not wish to do so, and dont insult your prime minister, what do you expect from the srilankan prime minister to declare war on india or some thing, you may be inspired from the "bodu sena", and i have observed you insulting indians many a times, if you wish to side with the chinese or pakis it is your wish, then dont blame india if it takes steps in its own interest.

SL is a good place. But I can see the inflation effect of tourist boom already. Trasportation is a BOMB. I think the infra needs a lot of upgrade. Especially the Kandy to Colombo/ GAlle train routes. If you want to serve western tourists, your facilities must be upgraded a lot. I'd recommend you guys send a fact find mission to Istanbul, study their infra and model your tourist cities on that.
Yeah, you're correct. The authorities are working on it and the roads from Colombo and Kandy are not bad any more either. Now there are luxury trains with better observation facilities go through the central highlands and we need to have the same along the Western/Southern coast. Trains are not very efficient for local use because our country is very small so the intercity trains should be primarily targeted for tourists. Sri Lanka has a huge potential in this if things are done in the correct way. There was a huge improvement in infrastructure in the past few years, hope it will continue.

These are the kind of train-cars that are designed for observation. If they include the same type in coastal train lines, it will be very effective.

I admit; I have always wanted to go to India, but have been a bit intimidated. So, when I was given the opportunity to go to Sri Lanka, the neighboring country, I jumped on it.

Sri Lanka is feast for all senses, whether it comes to nature, architecture, culture, historic sites, culinary experiences, or design. So is India. Where India might be the "more exotic" destination, Sri Lanka is oddly both less intimidating for Westerners yet less tourist driven than India. The main reason for the lack of tourism in Sri Lanka in previous years has been the ongoing civil war. Now that the war is over, the country is open for business. It is difficult to say how long Sri Lanka will remain unspoiled by tourism. Ironically, that's the very reason now is the time to go, before you find a KFC on every corner. Western chain stores and brands are already in Sri Lanka, but not nearly in the same quantities as in many other places in Asia.

It is very easy to experience the authentic Sri Lanka, but in a "safe and easy" way. By this I mean that traveling in Sri Lanka is relatively easy (even by train), the education level in the country is high, and we met people who spoke perfect English even in the smallest of the towns. The high literacy rate and education level can also be seen in the infrastructure. There were new highways from the capital Colombo to the other parts of the country, and the railway system worked well. You can even enjoy a great network of domestic flights managed by CinnamonAir. I visited Colombo and Kandy, the two largest cities of Sri Lanka, and not even once felt they were overcrowded by locals, or by tourists.

There are eight UNESCO heritage sites in Sri Lanka. My favorite is the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. Since the Temple of the Tooth Relic is one of the most sacred worship temples, people travel from all of the country to visit. We saw newly wed young couples coming together. We saw mothers bringing their children. I felt like an intruder, not really knowing enough of the religion. I was just a tourist, taking photos. But when a family asked if I wanted to take their photo I realized... I was welcome there too.

And that's how I sort of felt everywhere in Sri Lanka - welcome. One of my favorite towns is the coastal town of Galle. I am a person who judges places by the "could I live here?" parameter (I have lived in several countries and states on two continents) andGalle went on my list of places where I could see myself living. It was probably because I saw a colonial influence in Galle. I loved walking the streets trying to imagine how the colonial settlers, first Portuguese and then Dutch, had felt when they had settled there.

The Galle Fort is an UNESCO world heritage site, and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European settlers. I, however, was equally fascinated by the colonial museum, and the downtown shopping area where I could see the fusion of modern design, Asian heritage, and colonial past. One of my favorite shops is owned by Swedes, just confirming my thought that Galle was, and is, a great spot to settle down - no matter where you are from.

Some of the real highlights of my trip happened outside the cities. In Sri Lanka you can experience anything from tea plantations, to cinnamon production, to luxury relaxation on the beach resorts. I mention the beach resort, because you can't miss theBeruwala beach. It is the starting point of the "golden beach," over 80 miles (130 kilometers) of golden sandy beaches. My favorite time for beach time was in the mornings when the fishermen started arriving on the beach. There was a serenity in the everydayness of the fishermen, like it wasn't even their day job, but simply what they truly enjoyed waking up for every morning. I couldn't really blame them. .....................

What's unique in Sri Lanka is that, a huge variety of content is offered in a very small place. The intention of article is that, many tourists tend to think that Sri Lanka is the same as India and there is no point of visiting Sri Lanka after visiting India so it really damages the tourist industry of Sri Lanka.

India is not easy for travellers(compared to other countries in asia, including sri lanka) but lanka is not an alternative to India.
Why not? It's easy to get around in SL than in India.

:D #XAdarshLiberal spotted

India has lots to offer than Srilanka . From deserts to snow to hot climate to cool and moderate climate . Total package if want to have lots of fun with less cost . From Kashmir to Kanyakumari lots of different languages , culture and very friendly people :)

Welcome to India bro ... The place everyone can call there home :)
You are right. In fact, I would like to visit Himalayan areas one day. The intention of article is to suggest that Sri Lanka offers a slightly different taste than India.

NAAA, I was there a few months ago wanting the 'luxury cars' from Kandy. Didn't get them and the overall train experience was not good. Problem with highways (and Colombo to Kandy is a good road trip indeed) is that it's too damned expensive. Anything that involves non rail is too expensive for tourists and rail, though cheap is a tough ride that should be avoided on vacations. I think the rail infra needs a real kick up if you want to properly monetize it.

To give a perspective for non-south Asians tourist , india is like euro whereas SL is like Britain

Nobody in China uses the words "bloody" and "mullah". Someone ban that Indian false flagger

Actually a lot of tourists who come to India perforce go to Sri Lanka too. A whole lot of visitors visas are for 6 months only after which to renew their visas tourists have to spend 2 months out of India before their visa can be renewed. They use this opportunity to visit Sri Lanka or Nepal or other countries before hopping back into India. India requires more than 2 years of constant traveling to see all that there is to see, even that is not enough.
