U.S. law enforcement officials said Tuesday that a Saudi national injured in the Boston Marathon bombing is regarded as a witness, not a suspect.

The Saudi, who is recuperating at a Boston hospital, is in his 20s and is in the United States on a Saudi scholarship to study at a university in the Boston area.

The federal officials’ explanation echoed comments by a Saudi official at the country’s embassy in Washington. The embassy official said that a Saudi national has been questioned as a witness but is not regarded as a suspect. The Saudi official cited information provided to the embassy by U.S. law enforcement officials.

“We’re not aware of any Saudi suspect or Saudi person of interest,” said the Saudi official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the preliminary nature of the information.

He declined to identify the young man, but said he sustained serious burn injuries. The official said the victim is cooperating with U.S. investigators and granted permission for his Boston area apartment to be searched.

“He volunteered to have it searched,” the Saudi official said. “He is fully cooperating with authorities.”

He is one of two Saudi citizens who were injured in the attacks, officials said. The other is a female student who attended the race with her son and husband, and who sustained shrapnel injuries to her legs.

They are among thousands of Saudi nationals who attend college in the United States. The Saudi consulate in New York has dispatched a representative to Boston to meet with the hospitalized Saudi.

Stupid racists. I heard a civilian tackled him when he went running from the explosion just like everyone else and this guy handed him to the police.

Who cares  he's not guilty and cooperative. I lived in the US for 2 years and only had a problem with an overbearing land lady, that's all.

The first thoughts that come to mind about Saudi's in the western world is 9/11, terrorism, burka, sand and oil. How come with such friendly ties with the U.S.A. the fat sheiks don't bother to tell their buddies at fox news and hollywood to tone it down a bit? this is an honest question since Saudi Arabia and the U.S. are allies.

We don't care. Al-Waleed has a 7% share of Foxnews ,we can easily do it.
We don't have Sheiks .-.

Yes, i read something about Al-Waleed sharing 7% of Foxnews, it's very strange how he owns shares in a company that makes Saudi Arabia look like a terrorist country. You do not find this strange yourself?

As long as the white house doesn't interfere in our internal affairs or foreign policy agenda, we couldn't care less about your media. We keep selling oil in dollars and US minds its own business.

Unfortunately, most people here especially Muslims don't konw the KSA was the first to fight Qaeda before 11/9 and was being criticized by the West at the time for being oppressive against Qaeda members. I personally met Saudis who have relatives and brothers had been in jails for 7 and 9 years just for being Qaeda sympathizers, with no trails.

How many people here know about a foiled attempt to bomb the largest oil refinery in eastern KSA by Qaeda in 2006? If happened (God forbid) it would have killed 70 thousand innocent people and destroyed Saudi economy. According to Qaeda, they were going to do that to rise oil prices, yet benefit Arab oil countries by getting higher revenues :hitwall: as well as destroying Western economies.

This would help you understand more:

Very smart person indeed..;)

I would still like an answer to my question. Why would a Saudi own shares in a news channel that depicts Saudi's and muslims as savages and terrorists?

Where did you hear this from? Any source or just hearsay from people you know?

That's a good question, the Saudis don't own enough of Fox news (I think like 7%), Prince Al Waleed I think only owns a small percent so little influence. I would like to see the Saudis gain more ownership of Fox News and CNN. However, the Murdock family still has the largest share of Fox news so they get their way most of the time.

Source, I can't remember where though.

Never mind, I found the story.

CBS: Saudi Man In Custody Was Tackled By Bystanders At Boston Marathon - Business Insider

Man claims Saudi national being questioned was acting suspiciously, he chased and tackled him | Opinion - Conservative

20-year-old Saudi man being questioned in Boston Marathon bombings - NYPOST.com

The FBI grilled this Saudi national, they even went into his apartment searched for evidence such as explosive material, searched his computer, phone, etc. What a crazy day for him.

What I would like to know how did bystanders know clearly he was an Arab, was this Saudi wearing traditional clothing, his skin tone, did he have a beard, what made him really stand out? That bystanders where able to pick this man out to be an Arab in a crowd of hundreds of people (although most of the spectators were white people it seems).
