It's rather ironic and pathetic that the biggest province of Pak has least representation in the military. it shows lack of awareness coupled with vision and direction in both the military and political regimes.
I believe these things should have happened in the 80s and 90s whilst we were developing the nukes. Also mandatory service for the youth should have been implemented to bring people from different cultures together for solidarity and awareness.
You need to get your facts straight.
Army has never stopped anyone 'type' of Pakistani from joining the services. Balochs have been joining the forces for quite some time now. This recruitment drive has nothing to do with the historical events. We have large number of Officer and men in the Army since long, but ofcourse they were less in numbers when compared with others. The reason was less awareness and lower education standards in the far flung areas of Balochistan, so ofcourse the representation was less and those who were able to get the 'news' were rejected as they didnt fulfill the minimum requirements.
Raising the education standards or increasing awareness is not Army's job, it's the govt that has to be bothered about these. But unfortunately the Army has been doing most of the civilian chores! That's an irony!
Now they main problem that we had less Balochis in the military are two; influence of Sardars and lack of awareness and the blockade of info/lack of publicity or info in far flung areas.
With the Sardari influence broken we have already in the track, now fortunately, though the Sardars do keep a (loose) grip over their tribes but they dont stop them from taking independent ventures. As for the publicity problem, well the regular way of publicity of recruitment is through Newspapers, TV, pamphlets etc. But what could the Army do if most of the villages in Balochistan didnt have a TV or news service available? This lapse again fall the govt's back, Army is not be blamed for it.
But now as a policy decision the Army has decided to make sure that the 'news' should reach the farthest and remotest areas of the Province and that maximum people are informed. And that's what has been done. Mobile Recruitment Teams (MRT) have been made and sent to the villages, DCOs/the civilian administration has been brought on-board for the purpose and all possible steps have been taken so that most of the Balochi youth is made aware of the recruiment.
ANd important of all the standards have been loosened so that the (unfortunate) difference in class could be made up.
And yes, the Army is not being paid 'extra' in the budget for this
