Key Points
  • Attempts to launch C-705 missiles from two Indonesian warships during an exercise has failed
  • Failures come against the backdrop of increased spending on Chinese-made weapon systems by Jakarta

The Indonesian Navy's (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL's) attempt to successfully launch Chinese-made C-705 anti-ship missiles from two indigenously built attack craft during a major naval exercise has failed, sources from within the service informed IHS Jane's on 15 September.

The missiles, which were deployed onboard the KCR-40-class missile attack craft KRI Clurit (641) and KRI Kujang(642), each failed at different stages of their launches on 14 September.

Clurit and Kujang each fired a single C-705 missile during Exercise 'Armada Jaya' 2016 which was conducted in the Java Sea.

Both attempts were made in full view of Indonesian President Joko Widodo who was there to witness the exercise from onboard the landing platform dock ship KRIBanjarmasin (592). Accompanying him was TNI-AL chief Admiral Ade Supandi, and Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) chief General Gatot Nurmantyo.

According to TNI-AL sources, the first C-705 deployed onClurit failed to launch upon command, but fired unexpectedly about five minutes later after the ship's crew failed to observe a misfire procedure.

The missile failed to hit its designated target for the exercise, the recently decommissioned Tisza-class auxiliary support ship, Karimata (960). The second C-705 missile, which was fired from Kujang , failed during mid-flight, and subsequently also failed to hit the same target.

Besides Clurit and Kujang , 'Armada Jaya' also involves the participation of about 7,000 TNI personnel and 39 naval vessels including a Cakra Type 209/1300-class diesel-electric submarine (SSK).

Other TNI-AL weapons that will be tested during the exercise, that runs until the end of September 2016, include the C-802 anti-ship missile that has also been acquired from China.

PHAIIILLLL !!!

Makes you wonder whether failure to follow procedure(s) could also be the reason why the missile failed to launch on command. As opposed to a purely technical reason for failure to launch.

The missile failed to hit its designated target for the exercise, the recently decommissioned Tisza-class auxiliary support ship, Karimata (960).
Obviously, if it was fired randomly or not targeted properly > procedural or technical failure?

The second C-705 missile, which was fired from Kujang , failed during mid-flight, and subsequently also failed to hit the same target.
How did it fail 'during mid-flight', what was it supposed to do mid-flight and didn't? If the missile engine copped out or guidance update failed, then clearly no chance of hitting the target. Again, would the reason be purely technical or possibly procedural (i.e. people based)

Were these c705s produced in China or under license in Indonesia?

First off, before blaming the missile, let's wait for an investigation into this. It could simply be human error. When PAF first bought the F16, it also ran into a lot of issues.

Pakistan knows what to and not to buy from China; It knows what is good and what is junk.

Some practical examples are the thunder's engines (Russian), the current rifle competition (China was supposedly disqualified), next Gen tank (PA WAS apparently unhappy with China's offered tank), so on and so forth.

why not its opend forum every one can respond
That's not an answer to the question why would Pakistani people HAVE TO respond (clearly, they can if they want, but there is not a requirement of sorts). Some earlier poster apparently expected/demanded a response from Pakistani people in particular. And there is no obvious reason for that (unless intent it flaming) So, your answer here is not to the point, thank you.

why not attack and find out
And this is exactly the kind of reply I was attempting to avoid, thank you. Don't let yourself be baited.

@dani958: stop baiting. You're post is off topic and intended to start flaming. Reported.

Any Indonesian speakers here that can translate?

Filtered through an OCR and Google translation give the following dodgy translation.

Quote: Original Posted By ttatung ► According to the Janes: two C-705 released from sickles and Cleaver. Kedua2nya failed to hit the target. For instance, the sickles no problem software / hardware or standard operating fault can cause the missile launch time set arbitrarily, in this case 5 minutes late. KUJANG, missile launch goes wrong, but when the malfunction occurs-flight midair. There is? Imperfect combustion rocket?
When the target distance of about 55km, which he said were on the verge limits KCR-40's radar. wished missile has a speed of about 700km / h time is needed to pound targets around 5mn. Factors crashed 5 minutes, the opponent may not know, if the assumed opponent moving at full speed 30knot = 55km, the total time 10 minutes the ship opponent has moved about 10km from the first coordinate. This incident is assumed to be in the LCS can be a target has long slipped in the straits between the islands. Anyway 5mn malfunction in this case should be interpreted as something that failed miserably, because it could have not 5mn late but 10 minutes or Un-launch? Missile just jumped a few meters and exploded in place? An ideal target for the C-705 is a surface ship seekelas Jiangdao-class light-corvette. Calculate logistical and economic terms is a lot of promise. But in the firing of two missiles, and all of them are having problems, is this an event that is not true?
only one sickle talaga om .. dr. ane right on board ..

I want to find out if there was a failure in following proper procedures, whether maintenance, firing or safety related
