Indonesia to buy 10 Su-35 fighters- source

Indonesia will buy 10 Sukhoi Su-35 jets from Russia, a source close to the Indonesian Defense Ministry told RBTH.

The deal is likely to be financed in March when Indonesian Defense Minister General Ryamizard Ryacadu visits Moscow, the source said on the condition of anonymity, as he was not authorized to talk to the media.

The Su-35 is an upgraded version of the Su-27 multirole fighter. Moscow and Jakarta have been in negotiations for the sale of the aircraft since August 2015.

Indonesia would become the second country to buy Su-35 aircraft. In 2015, China bought 24 Su-35s for $2 billion.

i would assume so, 10 is quiet low which is not even enough to raise a squadron. so i would assume the 10 being ordered would complement the current su30's they already have, and options would probably be exercised when needed.
also another theory would be that money may be a problem so 10 would suffice for now. and would be used a naval attack aircraft due to it's long range and high tech capability.

Jakarta - Menteri Pertahanan (Menhan) Ryamizard Ryacudu memastikan Indonesia akan kembali membeli jet tempur Sukhoi buatan Rusia. Namun Sukhoi yang dibeli pemerintah jumlahnya tidak banyak, hanya 8 unit.

"(Waktu pembelian) lagi dibahas, itu nanti saya yang teken, tapi belum," kata Ryamizard usai menemui Sekretaris Dewan Keamanan Rusia di kantor Kemenko Polhukam, Jl Medan Merdeka Barat, Jakpus, Selasa (9/2/2016).

Ryamizard mengungkapkan, tak banyak jet tempur Sukhoi yang akan dibeli pemerintah dalam waktu dekat. Jumlah yang akan dibeli antara 8-10 unit. Alasannya pemerintah selalu ingin mendapatkan alutsista dengan teknologi terbaru.

"Sedikit lah, 8-10 lah, karena kenapa begitu kita sudah selesai kan nanti ada yang lebih canggih lagi, jadi jangan sampai ketinggalan lah, kan begitu," jelasnya.

Pada bulan Maret 2016, Menhan akan terbang ke Rusia. Salah satu agendanya adalah membicarakan soal pembelian pesawat Sukhoi tersebut.
