The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reaffirmed on Thursday that it would invest in Indonesia's new capital city project through an existing US$10 billion funding commitment to the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA).

UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri said that a portion of the funds would be directed toward the new capital project, while the remainder would go to other projects in strategic sectors such as infrastructure, food security, logistics, E-learning, digital infrastructure and vaccines.

“The UAE is committed to investing in developing a new capital city in Kalimantan, also encouraging other parties to also invest in this project, which is planned as a city built using green and environmentally friendly technology,” Al Dhaheri told The Jakarta Post.

The APBN is the main backbone of IKN for 2024

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Infrastructure observer from The Housing and Urban Development (The HUD) Institute Yayat Supriatna has viewed that the state budget (APBN) will be the main backbone of Nusantara capital city (IKN) construction funding in 2024.

"The APBN is the main backbone of IKN for 2024," Yayat told Antara here on Sunday.

Currently, for acceleration of the IKN development until 2024, the main focus is on APBN funds, and most works such as constructions of roads and water utilities will be handled by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, according to him.

The strength of the APBN is the forerunner of IKN to attract the attention and interest of both domestic and foreign investors , he said.

"With quality infrastructure standards and good services, investors will be interested in investing in IKN," he added.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati recently said the government had reserved a budget of Rp27-30 trillion in the 2023 State Budget for the development of the new capital city to be developed in East Kalimantan.

"We also have reserved around Rp27-30 trillion in the next year's APBN for the expenditure of basic infrastructure construction for the new state capital development," Sri Mulyani said.

The allocation of the 2023 state budget will be used to build an office of the Ministry of Transportation, which will play a role in creating connectivity nodes at IKN Nusantara.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) earlier said that the government estimated that the total budget requirement for the IKN Nusantara development project will be some Rp466 trillion.

Of the total cost, only 20 percent will be derived from the State Budget, while the remaining 80 percent will be pursued through the Public Private Partnership (KPBU) scheme and the private sector.

Hence, the President asked the Nusantara IKN Authority headed by Bambang Susantono and his deputy Dhony Rahajoe to work agilely and flexibly to obtain funding sources for the development of the new capital city.

JAKARTA (BLOOMBERG) - Indonesia said Foxconn Technology Group is considering investing in the country's new capital, a move that would bolster the US$34 billion (S$47 billion) construction project.

The Taiwanese company is looking at setting up an electric bus system and an Internet of Things network at Nusantara, as Indonesia's new capital will be called, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said in a statement on Sunday (June 26).

Young Liu, the chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry, Foxconn's flagship unit, met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Saturday to discuss the company's plan to invest US$8 billion to build a manufacturing plant with electric-scooter startup Gogoro. The factory, set to be built in Central Java province, will produce batteries and other electric vehicle-related products.

Liu told Jokowi, as the president is known, that Hon Hai is happy to help Indonesia set up talent training institutions, and it will provide EV technologies and products to local partners and work with them to build an EV ecosystem, according to a company statement on Saturday. They also talked about batteries and renewable energy and exchanged ideas about the electric mobility industry, the statement said.

Indonesia is seeking to capitalise on its large reserves of nickel, a key component in batteries, to develop an EV industry. The government is also planning to relocate its capital from Jakarta on Java island to Borneo island, where it plans to build a "green" city that will rely mostly on public transport and use renewable energy entirely.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run postal corporation PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) will establish digitalized warehouse services at Indonesia’s future capital city (IKN), Nusantara, in East Kalimantan Province to optimize the delivery of goods and reduce logistics costs.

"Through the (digital) concept, we will provide a guaranteed end-to-end logistic service for (the customers in) IKN," the director for courier and logistics business at the company, Siti Choiriana, told ANTARA here on Monday.

Choiriana noted that Indonesia is an archipelagic country, with vast land, air, and maritime areas, so her side encourages the innovation of logistics services through the digitalized and integrated end-to-end concept.

"Preparations have been made for the (development) of ports and airports (in IKN). (The development of) other required infrastructure has also been prepared well. Hence, along with other state-owned enterprises (SOEs), we can run (digitalized) end-to-end logistics (services) in IKN," she stated.

PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) will cooperate with state-run port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP), a ferry operator SOEs PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni), as well as state-owned bus operator Damri to provide the service.

The collaboration will offer cheap, easy, fast, integrated, and safe logistics delivery service to IKN since the transportation ecosystem has been established and readied.

"We are also preparing a delivery service that utilizes drones. The delivery service will be faster and more guaranteed, while the people (customers) will be pleased," the director remarked.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially established partnership with two State Ministers to establish the city’s drinking water supply system (SPAM), which is a program closely related to preventing the "Jakarta sinking prophecy" caused by groundwater over extraction.

Governor Anies signed an MoU on Monday with Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Public Works and Housing MInister Basuki Hadimuljono. This event was also attended by the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

In his written statement, Anies said the main reason city residents choose to extract groundwater is due to the fact that Jakarta’s drinking water pipe system has only covered 64 percent of the city.

"As a result, people who do not have access to piped drinking water tend to use groundwater continuously, which causes rapid land subsidence," he wrote on January 5.

With the existing pipe facilities, the amount of water that is able to be supplied to the community only reaches 20,725 liters per second for 908,324 customer connections. This is still far below Jakarta's population of more than 10 million.

The Central Government in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Jakarta has prepared a joint plan that synergizes the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) initiative project with details of the program, timeframe and appropriate financing scheme in the MoU.

"By 2030 Jakarta must already achieve 100 percent coverage of piped drinking water services," said Anies Baswedan.

Karian Dam Construction update (not yet completed)

The dam is located in Banten province, next to Jakarta. Some of the water will be used for Jakarta, to supply water for West Jakarta. This is part to solve Jakarta sinking problem caused by over extraction of ground water.

Recent development shown that there will be investment and technology from South Korea to treat the water so it can be drinkable without the need to boil the water.

Big boost for new capital project

SOUTH Korea and Indonesia have revised their agreement to ramp up cooperation on the South-East Asian country’s new capital project, paving the way for Korean companies to participate in building digital infrastructure, both sides said.

The revision was made during a summit between South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Seoul yesterday.

The two countries signed an agreement in 2019 to work together on the ambitious US$32bil (RM142bil) project under which Indonesia will relocate its capital from heavily congested Jakarta to the new city of Nusantara on Borneo island.

No time frame has been announced yet for its completion.

Yoon said South Korea could share its experience from building the administrative city of Sejong, which was officially launched in 2012.

The revised agreement “laid the groundwork for our companies to actively contribute to building the new Indonesian capital’s infrastructure, electronic government and smart city systems,” Yoon told a joint news conference.

Widodo, better known as Jokowi, said early construction of the capital was under way during a visit there last month.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s top steelmaker Posco and its Indonesian partner plan to spend US$3.5bil (RM15bil) over five years to expand capacity in the South- East Asian nation, while seeking opportunities to invest in the development of its new capital.

The investment from 2023 to 2027 will ramp up production at a joint venture between Posco and PT Krakatau Steel to 10 million tonnes a year, the Indonesian state-owned steel producer said yesterday.

Joko received a total of US$6.7bil (RM29.8bil) in investment pledges after a meeting with 10 leaders of South Korean firms during his visit to Seoul, where he vowed to cut red tape and speed up permits in South-East Asia’s largest economy.

Posco was also interested in joining the development of the new capital in Kalimantan, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said.

South Korea is the fifth largest source of Indonesia’s foreign direct investment, totalling over US$9bil (RM40bil) since 2017 until the second half of 2022, ministry data showed. A third of this went to the nation’s transport and utilities sector. — Agencies

To solve the Jakarta issue ( similar problem faced by Tokyo previously), Central Government policy is needed since the water for Jakarta people will come from dams outside Jakarta, Jakarta government doesnt have jurisdiction on that region.

This is why I am very happy that Central Government make synergy with Jakarta Governor to solve Jakarta problem.

So there will be 3 dams located outside Jakarta (Banten and West Java Province) to provide fresh water for Jakarta.
