Many people mistake Manipur as some region same as Myanmar that couldn't be Myanmar,since truth is not really promoted to be fair.
But unlike Burma,Manipur wasn't British colony ! It stayed a separate nation.
The people also evolved differently,while Tibeto burman Myanmar got almost overrun by Mon and other Khmer group from the south, Manipur was pretty much kept isolated by a ring of mountains from all side bar none,with one of asia's largest fresh water lake right in the middle of the valley giving it an unique flora -fauna and Culture with a very unique indigenous breed of people.

People from Manipur take their ancient Salai flag ( way older than India) everywhere,it's their identity,nomater which nation you represent, like Taiwan
