I expect F16 C/D refurbish and upgrade program contract to extend their life into at least another 15 years (before replacing it with KF21 (expected) will be signed in late 2024 and become effective contract in 2025. Indonesia BAE Hawk 100/200 gets greenlight from Finance Minister to undergo refurbishment and upgrade. InfoGlobal as local avionics company and PT NTP as turbine company subsidiary of Indonesian Aerospace are the ones expected to get the contract. BAE systems will also participate on the airframe and engine refurbishment.

The main contractor is local company (PT InfoGlobal), the overhaul and upgrade program includes local Turbine MRO company, PT NTP (Indonesian Aerospace subsidiary), BAE System and possibly Roll Royce for engine parts as sub-contractors.

Info Global will upgrade the avionics with their developed avionics. Number of planes being overhauled and upgraded will be around 24-32 planes

Indonesian Air Force F16 C/D (Refurbishment of second hand F16 US stock) life will be already 10 years in 2024.

We need to extend their life and do some upgrade before they are all expected to be replaced by KF21/IFX in late 2030's or beginning of 2040's inshaAllah.

AlhamduliLLAH, the program has been approved by Finance Minister. As what Alman Helvast stated, the effective contract may only happen in either 2024 or 2025

The upgrade (and hopefully some refurbishment) will be similar to Viper variant

42 Rafale F3R/F4 (newly built latest variant)
12 Mirage 2000 - 5 (Second hand from Qatar Air Force)
16 Sukhoi 27/30 (upgraded and refurbished version from current assets)

Total : 103 top of the line fighters

The fighters will be supported by 2 new and modern AWACS as well (has been approved by Finance Minister)

And possibly Surveillance Military Satellite (has been approved by Finance Minister)

Future. If the development goes well, it will become back bone of Indonesian fighters inshaAllah. We have law that forbid the foreign acquisition of military equipment if there is local alternative.

The acquisition of IFX is essential to enable Indonesia reach its MEF requirement (Minimum Essential Force-11 fighter squadrons) and also meet its Essential Force Program (After MEF is met)

Those needs to be backed by the economy development and local defense industry of course.

Latest development shows that Minister of Defense wants to order new F 16 Viper from Lockheed Martin as revision of acquisition program for 2020-2024 period.

In my opinion it will likely for one squadron (12-16 planes). This is better calculation than ordering F15 EX as we will inshaAllah upgrade all of our F16 squadrons into Viper variants. Hopefully we can get good TOT from the order and will help our IFX program. Regardless of that, this will then depend on Minister of Planning and Minister of Finance approval.

There is chance Indonesia will keep all of its F16 squadrons even until 2050, in my calculation if the recent change is accepted by Minister of Planning and Minister of Finance, then we will likely have 45 - 49 F16 Viper variants, not only 33 planes.

KSAD General Dudung Says the Number of Army Forces Is Not Ideal​

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Army Chief of Staff General Dudung Abdurachman said the strength of the Indonesian National Army or TNI AD is still not ideal.

The reason, said Dudung, currently the number of Army personnel still amounts to 76 percent or 400 thousand of the ideal number of personnel in terms of strength.

"Ideally it's (should be) almost 500 thousand. But the ideal must be proportional to the budget," Dudung said when met by Tempo at his office at the Army Headquarters in Central Jakarta, Monday, May 15, 2023.

Dudung revealed the cause of the lack of personnel from the ideal line due to budget issues. Because, he said, a large portion of the budget is still allocated for employee spending and routine costs. He acknowledged there were budget constraints on battalions and regional military commands.

"The defense equipment (the main tool of the weapon system) is also the same. We adjusted the budget," he said.
