India's southernmost airbase in Nicobar to get commissioned on July 31

I would be curious too. At this point, I could count 6 Scorpenes, 6 new submarines bigger than Scorpenes, 1 SSN and total 4 SSBNs - total of 17. (not to mention the old ones around 14 of them).

well the no. of submarines that IN can have in the near future (2020 or so) are:

scorpenes - 6 + 3 (follow on order, delays in P-75I will force IN for it) = 9
P-75I - 6
Arihant class - 3
Akula - 2
present submarines - 5 (as others will be decommissioned)

Total of 25 submarines :woot:

. .
Can anyone take wild guess on how much is the distance from northernmost airbase (leh???) to this one?

Thank you Admiral for educating me.

I again ask you the question, slightly modified.

How many nuclear powered submarines do you have now which can fire nuclear tipped missiles.

Kya Russia se kiraye pe li huee nuclear sub se Bharat ko nuclear missile launch karnay ki ijazat hai?
As per my knowledge India can fire missile up-to range of 300 KM,only conventional ones. So frankly speaking India doesn't have any nuke submarine equipped with nuke warheads. But 1 thing can be noted here that India does have pantoons which can fire SLBMs from any where while submerged. So hypothetically speaking India does have capability to fire nuke tipped missiles from submerged machines.
MTCR doesn't allow any nation(members) to supply weapons of mass destruction to any other country. India follows its principles independently. India is only country in the world which is not signature to any anti proliferation regimes still follows their rules strictly.

hope so..else why would they bother to install Klubs in them???its not for just show off..right??

@topic...

we should operate maritime recon aircrafts like P-8I..it will screen any ships/subs in that region.it'll curb Chinese activities significantly..though China isn't very active in that region and they barely send few subs to patrol far seas..but it'll keep tab on Coco islands. :azn:
India can't use nuke tipped Klub missile due to its self imposed sanction.

2 Akula's, how?? are we buying 1 more from Russia?

Hope the base hosts Super 30s and P8Is . That will make sure Bay is secured .

IAF already stated that MKIs from Kalaikunda airbase to secure A&N area. P8Is will be placed at the same air bases that now house Tu 142, Vishakhpatnam and Dabolim if I'm not wrong.

Exactly 3456.73KM

My God,how many times I will have to provide data for nuke submarine?
Ok 1 more time only & that is final. It's collection of various sites & defense blogs.
1st- Arihant class SSBN- 3-5.
Do I need to tell anything about this one?
2nd- Akula class- 2.
Again every body watches news?
3rd- Arihant follow-on submarine- 7 to 9.
Taken from various news & Wikipedia. Link is provided in Wikipedia.
4th- indigenous SSN- 6(some ex navy personnel say 12).
Again link is provided in Wikipedia and there are other news articles too.
5th- SSGN minimum 2(my guess)
TRISHUL: SSGN Design For Indian Navy
There is also chance that 1st arihant class can be used as training demonstrator & testing platform & other two can be converted to SSGN.
Today I read on some news page that India will have 25 nuke powered submarine but I'm unable to find the link becuase my network is very busy & slow.

You can get some fair idea.

The Distance between Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir,India) and Kwachengui (Andaman and Nicobar Islands,India) is : 3177.67 kilometers (km).

P8 will be operated from Goa and Arakkonam which also Houses Tu 142.
MKI can be operated from these bases but if it is a Air Naval base then there will be no full time MKI deployment or any other fighters of IAF.
